🏀 A BIG WEEKEND FOR OUR CROSS OVER CREW

Congratulations to our regular Cross Over Academy players who have been selected to represent Otago at the U12 Mini Fest today and tomorrow!

It’s awesome to see 14 Cross Over players recognised with representative opportunities, and we hope they enjoy the experience. It’s also rewarding to see so many kids who train with us week after week getting opportunities to test themselves at the next level.

Our challenge to our Cross Over players this weekend is simple: show great team culture.

Be great teammates. Communicate. Encourage others. Play unselfishly. Compete hard.

Being selected for a representative team is something to be proud of, but it isn’t the end goal. It’s another opportunity to learn, be challenged and continue developing as players and people.

We’re also really excited about the talent coming through behind them. We have plenty of younger Cross Over players who aren’t yet old enough for U12 representative basketball, and we can’t wait to watch their opportunities come in future years.

And to those who trialled but weren’t selected this time, keep working and keep enjoying your basketball. One selection doesn’t define your ability or your basketball journey.

Enjoy the weekend, crew. Compete hard, keep learning and, most importantly, be great teammates.

STOP JUST WATCHING YOUR FILM. LEARN FROM IT.
Cross Over Academy players can now register for a free introductory call with professional basketball coach Jeff Sparrow.

During the call, Jeff will:
- Learn about the player and their goals
- Discuss the footage they have available
- Explain how to prepare for a personalised film-analysis session
- Help the family decide whether his full paid analysis service is right for them

Cross Over teaches Jeff’s Point of Attack Defence principles throughout our Academy sessions. This is a great opportunity for players to better understand what their own footage reveals about their positioning, communication, decision-making and ex*****on.

Only 10 free introductory calls are available this September.
The call is free and carries no obligation. Any subsequent video-analysis service is independently delivered and charged by Jeff.

Cross Over Basketball recommends the opportunity but does not provide or sell the service.

A parent or caregiver must register and participate when the player is under 18.

2026 Taieri v Town Tournament

Congratulations to the Wakari Warriors, our 2026 Taieri v Town Champions!

Wakari completed a brilliant tournament by defeating the Fairfield Breakers 56–47 in the championship game.

Final honours

Runners-up: Fairfield Breakers

2026 tournament records
- Highest team score: Fairfield Breakers, 64 points
- Largest winning margin: Fairfield Breakers, 52 points
- Highest combined score: Wakari Warriors 56–47 Fairfield Breakers, 103 points

Fairfield has established a new tournament record with 19 school wins across Taieri v Town history, passing the previous benchmark of 14.

The championship game’s combined 103 points finished just one point short of the all-time record of 104. Fairfield’s 64-point team score was nine short of the record of 73, while their 52-point winning margin was seven short of the record of 59.

Wakari now joins Fairfield and Silverstream as a Taieri v Town championship-winning school.

A huge thank you to all 16 teams, Team Managers, families, referees, scorers, volunteers and supporters who helped make this year’s tournament possible.

🏀 TAIERI v TOWN — DAY 1 DONE!

What an opening day at the Edgar Centre!

24 games across four courts, plenty of close finishes, some big performances and one HUGE moment to finish off Pool B — Niko Timmins hitting the game winner at the buzzer as Tainui edged Columba 33–31!

After three pool games each, our final standings are:

Ages 10+

$45 per session or $240 for all 7 sessions

With limited numbers and a high coach-to-player ratio, players receive plenty of individual feedback and coaching.
