Ondrea Driscoll – Administration Manager
For the past year, Ondrea has been helping keep the Otago Golf Club running smoothly behind the scenes as our Administration Manager. Working part-time in the administration space, no two days are quite the same – from processing memberships and managing accounts, to responding to member queries and helping keep the day-to-day operations ticking along efficiently.
One of the things Ondrea most appreciates about working at OGC is the support and dedication shown by the Board, and the strong focus on continually improving and future-proofing the Club.
While many members see the finished product, there is plenty happening behind the scenes. As Ondrea puts it: “There’s a cost to everything. Technology does not always save time, but it definitely makes things easier.”
Outside of the Club, netball takes up much of Ondrea’s calendar, with involvement across club, University and regional level through board, committee and coaching roles throughout most of the year.
Favourite OGC moment? Walking home on a beautiful day and seeing players out on the course, enjoying themselves and making the most of the Club.

MEET THE TEAM
Mike Henderson – Director of Golf
For many members and visitors at the Otago Golf Club, Mike Henderson is one of the first faces they see when they arrive at the Club. As Director of Golf, Mike’s role covers everything from lessons, club repairs, and competition support to retail advice and helping members with their day-to-day golfing needs. In Mike’s words, the job involves everything from “squeaky trundlers to fixing clubs, lessons and shop boy”.
Mike’s connection with the Club stretches back more than 50 years, first taking up golf at Balmacewen as a schoolboy in the mid-1970s. In 1980, he began his apprenticeship at the Club as a PGA Professional Assistant — what he describes as “the trenches” of professional golf. He became Head Professional in 1985 and remained with the Club until 1993 before embarking on an extensive international golf career.
Over the years, Mike has spent his working life in golf, both in New Zealand and overseas. His career highlights include winning five professional tournaments, including the 1988 New Zealand Club Pro Championship, caddying professionally, and being on the bag for some remarkable moments in golf history — including Greg Turner’s victory at the 1993 Italian Open and Lydia Ko’s first professional win as a 15-year-old at the 2013 New Zealand Open.
Mike also spent 15 years as a Club Professional in Norway and coached extensively in China before the pandemic brought him full circle — or, as Mike puts it, “360, back home.” Since returning to the Club in 2021, he has once again been “back in the trenches”, supporting members and visitors with the same passion and personality he has always brought to the role.
One of Mike’s favourite parts of the job is the interaction with members and visitors — and, of course, the 19th hole. He says one thing people may not realise about the role is the huge variety of people, situations, and challenges that come through the doors every day, meaning no two days are ever the same.
Outside of the Club, Mike has a keen interest in military history and, unsurprisingly, golf.
When asked about his favourite spot on the course, Mike’s answer was simple: “Anywhere on the back 9… unless I’m searching for my own ball.”
And for anyone thinking life in golf is all glamour, Mike’s final task last Friday night — just before dark — was helping locate Errol Duckworth’s lost phone.
