Roslyn Wakari - 2 Northern AFC - 4
We played Northern for our final game of the season.
Unfortunately, we didn’t start the game well and found ourselves 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes. We lacked a little bit of intensity and intent in our play, which allowed Northern to get on top early. We managed to pull a goal back to make it 2-1, which brought us back into the game for a period, but Northern scored just before halftime to make it 3-1 going into the break.
At halftime, the message was that we needed to get on the ball, be more positive and bring a bit more intensity to our game. We made a few changes just after halftime and started to get more of a foothold in the game, but unfortunately it was probably a little too late. Northern scored a fourth goal, which was disappointing but probably deserved on the balance of play.
We made another change with Diogo coming on, and he posed a real threat up top. We moved to three at the back in an attempt to push for a couple of goals and created a few opportunities, but it was probably too late to get ourselves back into the game. We did manage to score with around two minutes remaining through Diogo to make it 4-2, but Northern deserved the result on the day, showing more intensity and intent throughout the game.
Despite the result, we’re really happy with the way the boys have developed, particularly considering the changes we made halfway through the season. The intensity, work rate, hunger and atmosphere around the group have all been really positive, and it feels like there is something really building within the team.
It wasn’t our day today, but hopefully we can carry that momentum and continue building into next season.
