A huge thank you to everyone who has offered to host Whakatāne students next week. We have now reached our target number of billets and can begin the process of allocating students.

Allocations will be completed on Monday, and host families will be notified shortly afterwards.

We greatly appreciate the support of our Gisborne Intermediate whānau in helping make this special exchange possible. 😊

Kia ora Gisborne Intermediate whānau,

Our annual exchange with Whakatāne Intermediate is fast approaching, with students and staff arriving in Gisborne on Thursday 18th June and taking part in a full programme of activities on Friday 19th June.

For many of our students, the Whakatāne Exchange is one of the highlights of their time at Gisborne Intermediate. The exchange has been running for many years and provides opportunities for students to build friendships, experience new activities, and create memories that last long after they leave intermediate school.

To make this special event possible, we need the support of our wider school community. We are seeking whānau who are willing to host one or more visiting students on the evening of Thursday 18th June.

One of the great things about billeting is that your child does not need to be participating in one of the exchange teams to be involved. Hosting a student is a fantastic way for any Gisborne Intermediate family to be part of the exchange experience and share in the excitement of welcoming our visitors to Tairāwhiti.

Visiting students will be ready for collection from Gisborne Intermediate from approximately 2:30pm on Thursday afternoon. Students can be hosted individually or in pairs, and simple sleeping arrangements such as mattresses or shared bedrooms are perfectly acceptable.

On Friday morning, we ask host families to:
• Provide students with some morning tea.
• Drop students back to Gisborne Intermediate by 8:30am.

A timetable for the exchange is attached so you can see the range of activities taking place across the two days.

Hosting a student is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate manaakitanga and give back to a school community that has welcomed many Gisborne Intermediate students into their homes over the years. Without the support of our whānau, events such as this simply could not happen.

If you are able to help, please complete the short form below:

Thank you in advance for supporting what is truly one of the highlights of the Gisborne Intermediate calendar. We look forward to another memorable exchange with our friends from Whakatāne Intermediate.

Ngā mihi,

Super 11 Pickleball

Absolutely awesome effort from our three pickleball teams today!

We saw some fantastic battles throughout the day, and it was great to see our students give their all despite many having limited experience with the game.

GisInt Yellow went undefeated all the way through to the final, narrowly losing on a points countback to Ilminster 1.

GisInt White showed outstanding sportsmanship and really came together as a team, finishing in an impressive 4th place.

GisInt Blue took a little while to find their rhythm, but finished the day strongly with some excellent performances, securing 5th place.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship shown by all of our players. Ka pai, everyone!

Special mention to Ted who was picked as 1 of 2 students from the day for showing awesome sportsmanship!

Super 11 Ultimate Frisbee

What a fantastic day of Ultimate Frisbee at the 2026 Super 11 Championships hosted by Gisborne Intermediate!

We entered four teams – Soarers, Gliders, Flyers and Rockets – and were incredibly proud to see all four teams qualify for the quarter-finals.

The Gliders finished 3rd overall after defeating the Soarers in the 3rd/4th playoff, while the Flyers finished 5th and the Rockets 8th. An outstanding effort from all of our players who represented Gisborne Intermediate with pride, determination and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.

A huge thank you to our amazing whānau who hosted visiting students on Thursday night. Your generosity and hospitality helped make the tournament a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Congratulations also to Te Puke 1, who were crowned 2026 Super 11 Ultimate Frisbee Champions.

Come down to Kiwa Pools on Sundays at 9am and give Water Polo a go!

Being a strong swimmer is helpful but definitely not necessary, half the pool is shallow so beginners are more than welcome. Water polo is an international Olympic sport that is growing fast in New Zealand, and the opportunities are endless.

Train with Coach Aggie from UCLA Women’s Water Polo, alongside local Gisborne Boys’ High talent Sammy and Diego.

Your first session is free, so grab your mates and come give it a go!

Check out the videos attached to see what water polo is all about!
