Russell Thorne came down from Auckland Gliding Club for his BFR with Bill today in BTC and for an introduction to strip flying.

Bill has two strips available for use, one level but with minor undulations, and one with gentle slope but still a challenge.

Russell owns his own homebuilt Carbon Cub but enjoys the vintage feel of the Supercub too and he passed with flying colours.

Ashleigh came to fly with Bill & Liv this week as she wanted to increase her Tailwheel hours to become a glider tow pilot. We added to the fun factor with an introduction to strip flying.

Ashleigh flew to a high standard and completed her Cub rating today.

Have fun flying the Pawnee Ashleigh! Glider towing is such great experience to grow your skills.

Murray Mc Farlane came with Bill for a birthday flight yesterday. Murray is a longtime Topdressing pilot, learning to fly in Super Cubs at Waikato Aero Club under Lou Valiant and later time spent in the Waikato topdressing so we went to a couple of Bill’s favourite airstrips south east of Hamilton to reminisce. Murray spent time topdressing in Piper Pawnees, the ubiquitous Fletcher and latterly Air Tractors. Murray’s partner Glenise watched on as Murray flew his celebration flight.

Melody went for a Trial Flight this morning with Bill in BTC. She did really well understanding the theory of flight and has a good feel on the controls. Onwards and upwards Mel.

After a few weeks delay with weather and life Julian Elder finally got the chance yesterday to do his Bristell NG5 rating with Bill at Matamata. Well done Julian and thanks for your patience 😀 A challenging day to test all your skills 😀

Part 2: We asked our instructors what their favourite things to teach are.

Liv says: “There’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing a student really nail the landing and have it all click into place - especially in a tailwheel aircraft.

I also love teaching cross-country navigation. It’s the final phase where the student brings everything they’ve learned together and can start to imagine what it will feel like to finally have their licence.

I love seeing their confidence grow as they find their way further afield. Sending them on their first solo cross-country is particularly rewarding.”

Congratulations to Yash Raina for completing his Supercub rating with Liv today.

Yash has a NZ PPL and Aus CPL. Next he will continue with Bill to gain the NZ Mountain Flying requirements to convert his CPL to NZ.

Adding tailwheel experience has added valuable skills on his journey - well done! 👏

Tate is a student pilot from Washington, USA and came for a flight with Olivia today while visiting NZ for work.

Today was a stunning calm day after the rough Spring weather we’ve had the past couple of weeks. We enjoyed the stunning scenery of the West Coast and Raglan ☀️

This was Tate’s first flight in a Supercub. He tells me that the dream is to own a Cub one day where he will be able to fly from his own ranch.

It was a pleasure to show you around Tate, and all the best with the checkride when the time comes 👨‍✈️
