What a way to finish off our 125th celebrations and the 2026 season with our Senior A men winning the first battle for the new Te Puia o Ōhinemutu Trophy.

A special moment for our club, and one that means a lot to our 2026 Senior A Captain, Manaaki Te Kowhai who shared:

“This win definitely means a lot to me, being the first time it’s ever been played for and topping it off by being the first winners of this taonga as well.

A memorable moment for me would be playing with some of our young fullas coming up through the ranks, as well as some of our ex-Waikite whānau who have moved into other clubs. Having them come back for a game was pretty special.

Obviously, once upon a time Waikite and Kahukura were one club, so I just want to mihi to our brothers from across the bridge and thank them for bringing it to us every game we play them. They never make it easy for us, and it’s always fun playing against some familiar faces and whānau.

Being the last game of the 2026 season, my hopes for the new year are that we can hold onto all our players, lock in for a meke preseason, and give it a better crack next year.” 💛🖤
