Advanced Personnel Cycling Team New Zealand based cycling team supporting their crew of riders as they compete in races across the country.

While driven by high-performance and producing outstanding results, the team is also highly focused on bringing awareness to the benefits of cycling for the community’s mental health and well-being, whether it be a recreational ride or competing at an elite level.

So we thought we’d finish with a bloke who seems to have a fairly loose interpretation of how much suffering is reasonable on a bike.

Cameron Jones

This guy has had a fairly outrageous couple of years.

A Kiwi mountain biker who went overseas chasing opportunities and has since become one of the biggest names in gravel racing.

And 2025 was the year things really exploded.

Unbound Gravel 200.

200 miles across Kansas. One of the biggest gravel races on the planet. A stacked international field.

Cam won it.

8 hours, 37 minutes. Course record.

Then, just to prove it wasn’t a one-day wonder, he went on to win the 2025 Life Time Grand Prix overall.

That takes some doing.

Fast forward to 2026 and there’s another jersey for the collection:

Oceania Gravel Champion.

And recently, over in Utah, Cam took nearly five minutes off the fastest known time around the brutal 160km White Rim Trail.

There’s strong.

And then there’s Cam Jones strong.

Road, gravel, climbs, crosswinds — Cam has made a habit of being very good wherever you put him.

And if there’s an opportunity to make a bike race hurt, he doesn’t normally need much encouragement. Southland should suit him just fine.

Cam knows how to race hard. He knows how to do a serious amount of work on a bike. And he’s not coming to Southland to admire the scenery.

TOS TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT - Rider5 | NATHAN “BUNNY” BUNN 🐰

Every good Southland team needs a Bunny.

But don’t let the nickname fool you.

Nathan Bunn has been around bike racing long enough to know exactly when a race is about to get silly — and, more importantly, when not to join in.

At 37, Bunny brings something you can’t manufacture with a training programme: years of racing instinct.

He’s raced extensively across track and road, both here and overseas, and has plenty of Southland kilometres already in the legs.

And he can still seriously push a bike.

Earlier this year he won the combined Masters 1/2/3 race at the Auckland/Waikato-Bay of Plenty Age Road Championships, and he’s no stranger to the boards either, having raced and won medals at the UCI Masters Track World Championships.

But Bunny’s value goes well beyond a result sheet.

Calm when things get messy. Clever with where he spends his energy. Rarely wasting a match just to prove he has one.

In a race like Southland, that matters.

Seven days. Six riders. Plenty of decisions made when everyone is tired and nobody is thinking quite as clearly as they were on day one.

That’s when having a Bunny around becomes pretty useful.

He raced Southland with us in 2024 and 2025. In November, he’s back for another crack.

TOS TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT - Rider4 | KYLE AITKEN 🇳🇿

22 years old. A big engine. And already a pretty decent collection of results.

Kyle Aitken came through the NZ track ranks, taking bronze in the Team Pursuit at the 2022 Junior World Championships, before becoming New Zealand Individual Pursuit Champion in 2024. Add Oceania Team Pursuit medals in 2024 and 2025 and you get the picture.

Kyle can push a bike. Hard.

And he’s certainly not heading to Southland to figure the place out.

He’s already got Tours in the legs and was part of the Pista Corsa squad with Dan Gardner when Gardner took yellow (orange) and won the Tour. He’s seen firsthand what it takes to get that jersey — and what it takes from the whole team to keep it.

Now it’s time to take that horsepower south and see what he can do with it.

There’s always one bloke in the bunch who looks like he’s enjoying himself a little too much.
For us, that’s Cory Hartgill.

The 2025 NZ U23 Cyclocross National Champion, Cory lined up with us at Southland earlier this year and is back again for another crack in November.

Since then he’s spent time racing in Italy, adding plenty more hard kilometres and experience to the legs.
Cory brings a bit of everything — young, strong, not afraid to race, and pretty handy when things get hard.
And somehow, still smiling.

Every team needs a fighter, and Glen is exactly that.

A genuine workhorse who isn’t afraid to put his head down, do the hard yards and empty the tank for the team. When the racing gets tough and the legs start hurting, Glenn Haden the rider who just keeps digging.

And he knows his way around Southland. A previous Silver jersey winner, he brings plenty of experience and knows exactly what this race can throw at you.

No fuss. No shortcuts. Just a hard bike racer who’ll give everything he’s got.

Tour of Southland 2026 - 4 weeks to go. 🔥

The prep is done. The team is locked in. Now it’s time to introduce the crew taking on the 2026 SBS Bank Tour of Southland.

First up — Matty Wilson Matthew Wilson Mountain Bike Racing .
2nd on GC the last two years, and just 2mm separated him and Josh Burnett at the line up Bluff Hill last year.

Matty knows this race. He knows what it takes. And he’s back for another crack at it. 👊

Huge weekend of racing last weekend for the boys.

Saturday saw the nzl lads take on round 2 of CMC Cycling super city series.
Finishing 2nd in the team time trial and then defending Josh Cavanagh lead in the series in a hard fought windy race with Josh finishing 3rd.

Sunday saw Matthew Wilson take on Chequamegon MTB Festival in the Life Time Grand Prix. The hard work has finally paid off taking an impressive solo win!! Proving what we all knew, this lads world class!!!

We're stocked to welcome Glenn Haden to the Advanced Personnel Cycling Team.

If you've spent much time around New Zealand cycling, you'll know the name. Glenn's been a consistent performer for years and earned a reputation as one of the toughest riders in the country. More recently, he added a New Zealand Hour Record to an already impressive list of achievements.

Based in Whanganui and working as a firefighter, Glenn brings plenty of experience, strength and professionalism to the team.

"I'm stoked to be given the opportunity to jump on board with the Advanced Personnel Team. I feel incredibly lucky to have found this sport and the opportunities it's provided, and I can't wait to see what we can achieve this year."

Great to have you on board, Glenn.
Apparently retirement isn't an option after some clear instructions from his kids. Something tells us there may be a few long days, tired legs and a big goal on the horizon this summer
