Congratulations to our students who graded this week! All the hard work put in this term really showed at both our adult and junior gradings.

Great to see our adults already back in the dojo this week in their new belts, we look forward to seeing all the junior’s back as well after the school holidays.

21/06/2026

Congratulations to all of our competitors from Pōneke dojo at the 2026 New Zealand Nationals yesterday! As well as a huge thank you to our senpai, sensei and Shihan for their judging, coaching and support.

We had a great team of our juniors and adults with a few first timers stepping onto the mats. Pōneke dojo took home the UG-9th kyu adults kata second place, the 12-13y -40kg boys first place, the men’s novice master’s 80-90kg second place, the women’s elite open first place, the men’s elite 80-90kg first place, the men’s elite open weight first place and Yokozuna.

We’d like to acknowledge as well all of our parents and families, friends and other supporters who came along for a great day. Thank you for all your support of the dojo, your children and the other competitors. We couldn’t do it without our wider dojo whānau. Thank you as well to all the other dojos attending and Shihan Steve and Shihan Diane Takiwa and their amazing crew for running the tournament.

More photos to come once we’ve had some time to recoup after a long and exciting day!
