Support for our sport is growing
We’re excited to share that MentalHunts has been officially added as a member of the Fi****ms Community Advisory Forum (FCAF) which has been in place since 2014.
This forum exists to provide advice and perspective on issues affecting New Zealand’s fi****ms community. Having a seat at that table means that our fi****ms community's mental health now has a voice within that conversation.
Good systems and good relationships are built when communities are part of the conversation, not just the subject of it.
MentalHunts works directly within the fi****ms community supporting and educating people around mental health, wellbeing, and early intervention. Through our work we see first-hand how people navigate difficult periods in their lives.
What is sometimes missed in policy conversations is that for many people in our community, time in the bush is more than recreation, it’s therapy. It's a place where people find space, clarity, connection, and recovery.
By being part of FCAF, MentalHunts can help ensure that discussions around fi****ms policy also consider the human side of mental health, the realities of licensed fi****ms ownership, and the importance of encouraging people to seek support early without fear of punishment or stigma.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute and to help bring a perspective that focuses on mental health support, prevention, trust, and safer outcomes for everyone.

Ok people - here's some fun!
Time to play a game of guess the cartridge. A nice easy one to start with. Bonus points if you can guess the projectile.
I will reveal the correct answer tomorrow night.

Members are advised that the club will shortly be introducing mandatory rifle position training covering the three fundamental shooting positions: Prone, Kneeling, and Standing.
The purpose of this training is twofold:
1. Safety – ensuring all members are fully competent and confident in the safe handling and firing of rifles from the recognised shooting positions.
2. Capability – positioning WHSC to support three-position shooting disciplines, giving our club a distinct advantage over many others and expanding the opportunities available to our members.
To make this as easy as possible for everyone, the club will be providing free training sessions on Sundays starting at 10:00 am. A cut-off date next month will apply for completion of this training, after which members will be expected to have completed the course to continue participating in rifle activities requiring these positions. Whilst we have volunteer trainers within the club those who fall outside the cut-off date will incur an administration fee.

We'll only have the world's best fi****ms laws that respect licenced firearm owners if the people affected by them have their say.
So if you're a farmer, hunter, sport shooter, pest controller, dealer, museum, collector, gunsmith, or anyone else who interacts with fi****ms, make your voice heard by supporting the bill and suggesting improvements.
Unlike the previous Government, we're listening. Link to submit in the comments.
