7 skills you need to break 80 ⛳️
1️⃣ Keep your tee shot in play
You don’t always need to hit driver. On tighter holes, a long iron or hybrid may be the smarter option. Prioritise keeping the ball in play—not hitting it as far as possible.
2️⃣ Know your carry distances
Knowing how far you carry every club is crucial for shooting lower scores. It helps take short and long misses into hazards out of play.
3️⃣ Stop chasing every pin
You don’t always need to go flag hunting. Aim for the centre of the green and play away from trouble. More greens and fewer short-sided misses will quickly lower your scores.
4️⃣ Develop a reliable short game
You won’t hit every green. Your first priority should be getting the ball safely onto the putting surface and giving yourself a chance to save par.
5️⃣ Avoid three-putts
PGA Tour players only make around 1 in 8 putts from 20–25 feet. From longer distances, focus on speed control and leaving yourself a simple second putt—not trying to hole everything.
6️⃣ Take your medicine
One bad shot doesn’t have to become a double bogey. When you’re out of position, play back into safety and give yourself a chance to save the hole.
7️⃣ Stay patient
Breaking 80 doesn’t require perfect golf. Stick to your strategy, accept your mistakes and don’t let one bad hole affect the next one.
