After a sold-out soft opening at Tampines Library on 6 and 7 June, our Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest location-based VR experience was officially launched at the Central Public Library on 10 June. Together with our co-creator MAYA DANCE THEATRE, we would like to thank all our guests for sharing the event with us. We hope you enjoyed your journey through the enchanted forest!

Thank you once again to UOB and National Arts Council Singapore for believing in the project and making it all possible! Thank you too to National Library Singapore for their venue sponsorship so that we can take the experience to children and families at seven public libraries across Singapore; and Enabling Village for hosting the experience on 11-12 July for persons with disabilities and their caregivers.

We kicked off "Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest" at Tampines Library Saturday! Close to 70 people had the chance to experience the location-based VR dance storytelling adventure created by Avventura and MAYA DANCE THEATRE. We are sorry we had to turn so many families away. We are already fully booked this weekend. If you have a confirmed booking, we look forward to seeing you at Tampines Library Sunday 7 June. If you miss it, you can catch it next at Woodlands Library the weekend of 13th and 14th June.

Not every forest is meant to look real… some are meant to feel magical.

Meet Violet, the graphic designer behind the enchanting world of Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest.

From colourful dreamlike trees to hidden details inspired by real mousedeer habitats, every part of the environment was carefully designed to balance fantasy with nature. Even the pond where Sang Kancil first appears was inspired by research into how mousedeers stay close to water sources in real life.

Instead of the usual green-and-brown forest palette, Violet reimagined the forest as a vibrant, storybook world — creating an experience audiences can step into, but could never quite find in reality.

Welcome to another chapter of Sang Kancil Diaries — meeting the creatives bringing the enchanted forest to life.

Two weeks to go before our latest arts-tech collaboration with MAYA DANCE THEATRE begins its tour of eight locations across Singapore from June to August 2026.

"Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest" is a 30-minute, multi-user, location-based virtual reality (VR) experience inspired by the adventures of the beloved mousedeer Sang Kancil from Southeast Asian folktales.

This free-roaming VR experience invites families and children 8 years and above to journey through a magical forest filled with immersive storytelling, interactive encounters, and captivating virtual environments.

Brought to life using motion capture, 3D animation, and VR technology, every gesture, leap, and interaction was carefully crafted by dancers from MAYA DANCE THEATRE and DADC who performed by blending traditional influences with contemporary choreography.

The VR experience is free but pre-registration is recommended. Walk-ins are welcome but are subject to availability and waiting times. Find out more and sign up today at the event microsite: https://www.dancexr.sg/sang-kancil-about

Countless movements. One enchanted world coming to life.

Meet Sameeha, the 3D Animator behind Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest, where real dance performances are transformed into animated characters through motion capture technology.

From mocap to post-production, every movement is carefully refined to bring the characters to life in VR.

“What makes a legendary mousedeer feel clever, courageous… and real?”

Meet our 3D modeller Amanda, the mind behind Sang Kancil’s look. From soft, rounded sketches to a more adventurous final design, every detail of Kancil’s character was carefully shaped to balance cuteness with intelligence, curiosity and bravery.

Inspired by a blend of Malay and Indian cultural influences, her costume tells a story; right down to the flower she wears as a symbol of courage.

Go behind the scenes and discover how Sang Kancil was brought to life for this immersive VR experience.

Step into the enchanted forest this June, July & August at SG Enable or a Library near you.

Echoes of Forbidden Hill is an exuberant and poignant tale about the history of Fort Canning Hill told entirely through dance. A remarkable feat by that deserves to be enjoyed by more people both in Singapore and abroad. Congratulations!

Dancing together, unseen

How do you connect with other performers and an audience you can’t see?

In this piece, diversely-abled dancers June and Jiaying performed in a world of imagination—responding to virtual characters beyond the frame, beyond the lens.

Performing in motion capture suits required focus and determination. Guided by facilitators, and the support system around them, they were able to respond to timing, spacing, and interaction cues.

See their movements transformed in the magical enchanted forest - soon at a library near you and at Enabling Village.
