Twelve years ago today.
Fittest on earth, at 47.
Winning four of the last five events.
Three days of action and awareness merging.
What the video doesn’t show: the stiff back, cranky knees, the popcorn shoulders, inflamed elbows.
A body that couldn’t run with my kids or get on the ground to play with my dog.
It also doesn’t show that somewhere in those three days, competing stopped feeling like effort. Instead: pure presence.
That contrast is where Durable Movement started. Not what can I force out of this body…what can I cultivate that lasts, in mind, body, movement, everyday life.
Still training.
Still helping others along the way.
Stay durable.

Writing about durable movement, staying in the game, and trusting your body again. If you want the longer version, it lives here →
The work isn’t adding more.
It’s removing what’s in the way.
Your body isn’t broken.
It’s adapting.
Most people try to fix tension by adding more effort…
but that usually makes things worse.
What actually changes things is simpler:
Breath.
Movement.
Awareness.
If your body has been feeling “off”…
this will make sense.

Most people don’t need more work.
They need a system that can settle.
When it can’t settle, it protects.
Breath shortens.
Tension rises.
Movement gets forced.
So you keep adding:
More mobility.
More stretching.
More effort.
…and nothing changes.
This is the shift:
Not more input.
Better organization.
Until you learn to settle the system,
you’ll keep recycling the same pattern.
Or you can actually change it.
If this feels like you, don’t wait on it.

Most people think something is wrong
when the noise shows up.
But that noise isn’t random.
It’s the system trying to return to what’s familiar.
⸻
Even if what’s familiar
is the pattern that’s keeping you stuck.
⸻
Because the unfamiliar…
feels unpredictable.
So the body tightens.
Breath shortens.
You move away from it.
But that’s the signal.
A moment to stay with
not move away from.
Because progress lives
on the other side of that noise.
Stay durable.
