Kendo is the Japanese form of fencing. It arises from the sword arts of ancient Japan, and is the modern incarnation of a centuries-long evolution.
Kendo is more than just learning to fence with a sword. It is also about discipline and honing a right spirit. Kendo is practiced around the world under the International Kendo Federation (FIK), and in the United States under the All US Kendo Federation (AUSKF). Due to the special election today (Tue Feb 10, 2026). Kendo will be held in room across from the bathrooms.
Tonight will mainly be kata.

Kendo is Cancelled on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2026 due to the snow and ice storm.

Just a reminder:
No kendo today at the Durant Center.
We will be in Richmond for testing.
Due to annual deep cleaning of the Oswald Durant Center,
there will be no Kendo tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 31
and Tuesday Sept. 2.
There will be no kendo tonight, Tuesday, June 17.
The City of Alexandria just confirmed that the Durant Rec Center is closed today for voting for the Virginia State Primary.
If this applies to you – then you should go vote instead of kendo anyway. 😀

We had a great time! Thank you Arai sensei and Aida sensei for helping us develop our skills and thank you Koryo for hosting!
Arai sensei (7th dan) from Georgia Kendo Association was in Virginia (Koryo dojo) today and gave the local 3 dan and up kendokas a great class. Aida sensei (7th dan) also joined the group, and it was a great experience. Thank you, Koryo Dojo, again for hosting this event.
