Boxing Bingo is a game which encourages boxers to land blows to predetermined targets. Although there is low fidelity in searching for openings (affordances),the boxer finds those targets in multiple ways (repetition without repetition).
There is also an emphasis on searching for the intentions of the opponent as they must spot and defend where they are trying to execute to. This gives a higher level of representativeness as both boxers must attack and defend simultaneously.
Deceptive skills begin to emerge as boxers realise they must hide their intentions as the opponents become more attuned to their opponent’s intentions. Feinting, triggering and drawing naturally emerge.
Scaling
First remember, prescribing games whilst can have benefits, are limited to the coach’s ability to scale the complexity to the skill levels.
There are multiple ways to scale up and down here. We do not want to prescribe this. We believe this up to you to observe and communicate with your boxers to manipulate constraints and find the challenge point for each boxer.
Scaling areas to consider:
Number of targets
Size of targets
Combinations between targets
When an individual can score
When they can change the chosen targets.
The number of targets which are covert and which are told to the opponent.
Types of punches allowed.
Continuous or time constrained.
These are just a sample of variables which can help you make the challenge just right for each individual. Be creative and allow exploration! Each pair will be different.
Now let’s play Boxing Bingo!
