Anyone else excited for the Fall Deer Season? I can’t wait to get quiet in the woods.

I’ve been enjoying short daily calisthenics. 10 minutes of push / pull / legs tends to be 3-5 rounds depending on how I’m feeling. Today was:
Med ball push ups x 20
1 arm mace swing x 10 per arm
Hindu squat x 20.

The Knowth Macehead is one of my all time favorite artifacts! I had the honor of seeing it again last year in the National Museum of Ireland, and visited its original resting place. Carved over 5,000 years ago and discovered in Ireland’s ancient passage tomb of Knowth, it is one of the finest examples of Neolithic art. Its spirals, chevrons, and interlacing patterns harken back to an age where tools were both practical and ceremonial. To me, the carving also resembles a human head, perhaps a nod to the spirit-bearing power of the object. Not a stone, but a companion in ritual and in battle.

In my training, I see the same principle: the mace is not just a weapon or a fitness tool, but a vessel for skill, discipline, meaning. To train with intention is to carve strength into the body the way our ancestors carved symbols into stone.

The Fianna walked between two worlds.
They were guardians of the tribe, but not confined by it. They slept under the stars, trained in the forests, and kept watch on windswept ridges.

They were warriors, but not conquerors.
They were wild, but not savage.
They served no king, only honor, courage, and justice.
They were poets, lovers, dreamers.

When the people were threatened—by invaders, by tyranny, by fear—the horn of the Fianna echoed like thunder over the hills, and its heroes sprung forth from river and stone with spears in hand, and fire in their eyes.

The Fianna remind me that strength does not belong to oppressors.
It belongs to those who stand together.
Those who love one another.
Those who refuse to bow to fear.
In an age where fascism creeps in with torment and destruction, we need wild hearts. Courageous hearts. Fianna hearts.

Stand for the rights of all people.
Stand for the mutual flourishing of the land.
Stand for a free and bright future for all of our children.
Be Fianna.
