Sofia Sahagun’s soccer career started as a toddler on a military base in Colorado Springs. She was always moving, both faster than her competition with speed and foot skills that her family knew were special and changing where she called home.
The 12-year-old was born in Germany while her father was deployed there and also spent time in Georgia and Colorado before landing in Maryland six years ago. The Sahaguns have lived in Harford County for three years now after spending the previous three in Bethesda.
But, Sahagun said, “wherever I’ve moved, I’ve always had a ball at my feet.”
This year, those advanced soccer skills have earned her an opportunity to represent her country in another sport.

Congrats to teammate Sofia who repped the Bays and won at the Top Binz 1v1 tournament in a combined 2014-2012 age group! Sof went undefeated in 7 matches against players from 5 other clubs, to be crowned the champ. Congrats!

What a way to finish.
After another shutout win today, the Lightning finish the spring season in 1st place. Coming off a tournament championship last weekend, this group has been on an incredible run, but what makes this team special goes far beyond wins and trophies.
These girls have built something that every coach hopes for: a culture of effort, attitude, and selflessness. They work hard, compete for each other, celebrate each other's success, and always put the team first. They win the right way.
The results on the field are simply a reflection of the character they've developed off it. The future is bright as many of these players take the next step into high school soccer this fall.
Watch out, high school soccer. The Lightning are coming... and so is the Fury. ⚡️💙
