💙 It’s Welcoming Week at the YMCA! 💙
For Welcoming Week, we’re highlighting members of our Y community and hearing the stories that brought them through our doors. Today, we’re sharing the story of Kathy, whose connection to the Y began long before she became our favorite volunteer. 🫶
“I came to the YMCA in 2017 because I was looking for a place to work out and help with my recovery after a car accident. My connection to the Y actually started much earlier. When I was 16 years old, I was a Leader in Training at a YMCA summer camp, and volunteering there left me with such a positive and meaningful memory of the Y.
So, when I needed a place to focus on my recovery, my very first thought was the YMCA and the community I remembered. When I walked through the doors, the first person I met was Brenda. She gave me a tour, answered all of my questions, and welcomed me with so much warmth and a sweet smile. I immediately felt comfortable and knew I had found a place where I wanted to be.
After joining and becoming more involved, I eventually spoke with our then Membership Director, Brian, and asked if there was an opportunity for me to volunteer. Without hesitation, he said yes. That opportunity allowed me to give back to a place that had already given me such a positive experience.
Over the years, the YMCA has become so much more than just a gym to me. It has become a community, a place where I feel welcomed, supported, and connected. The people here have made such a difference in my life, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that continues to make everyone feel like they belong.
That’s what makes the YMCA so special to me. The community here is truly welcoming, and I’m so thankful that I found my way back to the Y.”
✨ Happy Welcoming Week! We’re so grateful for everyone who has found their place at the Camarillo Family YMCA.
