We've had a lot of things happen at the club lately:
Our flagpole pulley broke, but we managed to lift the pole out of its base, get the pulley working, and the pole is back in operation. However, there are some concerns with just how firm/safe the pole/base are, so the Board will look at it and options during the season. We want whatever we do to be a good long-term (decades) investment of pool funds.
We've got our reciprocity with Brookfield Pool set up for this year, so that when a pool is closed for a B swim meet there are options for members. Greenbriar members may use Brookfield on 6/29, and Brookfield may use Greenbriar on 7/20
Our 501(c)(3) foundation - Friends of Greenbriar Pool Club (the Friends), is now operational. This is a separate organization that is allowed to accept donations to benefit the pool AND the local community. It has its own management structure which is getting finalized. I want to stress that it is legally separate from the club, it's not funded by our maintenance fees or under the control of the Board. It also received its first donation - The Lawrence P. and Elizabeth A. Kelly Charitable Fund donated $10,000 to the Friends, in recognition of the Kelly's decades of living in Greenbriar and their history of pool membership. They suggested the funds go towards senior citizen activities. The Board would like ideas from the members on how to enhance the senior pool experience , as we'll prepare a proposal for enhancements (e.g. water aerobics, shaded seating) to present to the Friends. The Board wants to express its sincere gratitude to the Charitable Fund for this donation.
We want to give the membership advance notice that we'd like your presence at our September meeting. We'll be discussing the financial structure of the corporation, and how money might flow between the Friends 501(c)(3), the Club, and the Teams. We want to be sure we're very transparent any time we have any sort of significant change in the structure of the Club and its affiliate(s). We will try to have the September meeting at the Greenbriar East Cafeteria.

*The Power has been restored and the pool is reopened!*
THE POOL IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE FOR A POWER OUTAGE!
We will make another announcement when the pool has reopened.
In spite of the weather, we had folks waiting to use the pool when we opened this morning! It was really rewarding to see the young folk get in the water (which was warmer than the air). By the time for the first break, it was raining hard enough that the guards couldn't see the bottom, so they've delayed letting folks back into the water until the rain lets up. Swimmers are enjoying the hot noodles and hot chocolate from the snack bar.
It looks like the rain and cool temps will continue today and some of tomorrow, but things may improve a bit on Monday. Here's hoping everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!.

Opening Weekend is nearly here!
This will be our last update before we open. The pool and the staff are ready. We had our early swimsafe testing today where over 140 kids earned their swimsafe bands, and the water was great. Lots of compliments on how smooth the newly-plastered pool surface is as well.
Unfortunately, the weather this weekend is not looking so great, with rain on Saturday and Monday, and temps in the 60s all weekend. We are going to cancel the snack bar BBQ special and move it to the fourth of July. But the pool and snack bar will be open (no guests of course) all weekend, and we hope to see many of you.
Looking ahead a little bit - Member Splash has added some new functions, and we anticipate that by May 30 we'll turn on a reservation system. This will let you reserve space for private parties (and see when the spaces are available), or request a lap lane in advance (this will save your waiting for the guards to set up a lane). This system will also show special events like rafternoons, early pool closures, etc.
We're also adding co****le to the side lot. We'll have one set ready for opening weekend, and another set on the way.
Various board members will be present on opening weekend - we'll all have nametags, so feel free to say hello and share any concerns or suggestions.
See you Saturday!
And just a reminder- if you haven't paid your dues yet, please make sure to do so by logging into your member splash account [https://greenbriar.membersplash.com/]. Another late fee will go into effect opening day.

6 DAYS TO GO!!
You've probably noticed more activity at the pool as the staff get the pool and clubhouse ready for operations. Here is some more information about what's going on next week and on the opening weekend.
Wednesday - Early SwimSafe testing!
On Wednesday, May 20th, we'll have a few guards and a couple of Board members present to do SwimSafe testing... this should let children get it out of the way before the pool opens, and be ready to join teams or use the deep end for fun. Testing starts at 2:00 PM. There are multiple 30-minute windows (the first is already full) and we estimate being able to test 30 kids in 30 minutes.
You can sign your child(ren) up for a slot at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054FABA628A6F9C07-64045090-early #/
If all the slots are full, check back later as more windows may be added.
*A couple notes on SwimSafe:*
Children 14 (an updated age rule this year!) and under must pass the swimsafe test annually to be able to use the 'deep end/dive well' of the pool, or for younger (under 😎 children to be anywhere in the main pool without a parent in the water within an arm's reach. There are no 're-tests' during this early testing day. If a child fails, he can retake the test when the pool is open.

Snack Bar Update:
To celebrate Opening Day, we’re kicking off summer with an opening day BBQ! We’ll be serving delicious burgers, hot dogs, and Italian sausage meals starting at 12:30. The water might still be a little cold, but seeing all your favorite summer pool friends again will make it well worth stopping by!
Be sure to visit the snack bar for your favorite treats throughout the day and the extended holiday weekend. The snack bar will be open from 12 to 7 Saturday through Wednesday. As we begin the season, we also want to thank you in advance for your patience and kindness with our new employees as they learn the ropes — they’re excited and working hard to serve you.

In less than two weeks the pool will be open! The Board wants to keep you up to date and set expectations for opening weekend, so that our busiest time of the year will be smooth.
The pool is full, and we have replastered the pool in the off season, as well as adding the logo to the floor of the west wing - seen below with Taylor (our robotic swift pool cleaner) working to keep the new pool floor beautiful. A matching tile will be installed in the east wing when the pool is next drained (likely the end of the season). Our Sunbrellas are up, and the furniture will go out in the next 8-10 days.
Looking ahead to opening weekend, I'll ask you all to be patient, it's the one time of the season where we tend to reach our capacity on the pool deck, so don't be surprised if you have to wait to use the pool. By the same token - if you are using the pool, show some consideration for your fellow members and let them have a chance when you can. And remember that NO GUESTS are permitted on opening weekend. There will be Board members present during the opening weekend, so please say hello. We have many of our NVPools guards back this year, and I'll (gently) remind you to pay attention and follow their direction - if you disagree with a guard's call, don't argue with the guard, just do as you're asked, and you can raise it with the head guard, the on-site manager, or the board AFTERWARDS. We don't have any new rules this year, and we just want to continue our excellent safety traditions, so parents PLEASE be in the water and within arms reach with children who aren't yet swim-safe.
Speaking of swim-safe, we will once again be having an afternoon of pre-opening swim-safe testing on May 20th (an early release day), and we'll have more details coming out in e-mail and posted on the website next weekend so kids who are READY can sign up to take the test before we open. The bands this year are green!
Our snack-bar will be open, and if we have any special food-event for opening weekend we'll let you know by next weekend. PLEASE do your best to eat in the snack bar area and clean up after yourself.
The side lot will once again be available for pickleball and basketball this year. The Club will provide pickleball nets; however, members must bring their own pickleball equipment and basketball. Please note that the outside gate near Middle Ridge Drive will remain locked and inaccessible while the pool is open. All members and guests must check in at the clubhouse and access the side lot through the pool deck entrance.
We look forward to seeing you all on opening day!

For folks wondering what's going on at the pool, this year is more than the normal drain/clean/refill cycle... We're having the pool replastered, where they drain the pool, chisel away a fair amount of the old surface, and then lay down a new coat of plaster. This is something that happens every 8-10 years, and it takes a while.
One bit of good news is that the work permits us to detect any issue with the pool structure, the same way one would look for cracks along the foundation of a house. Happy to say that NV (and several Directors who were observing) found no issues.
The plastering will get finished today, and the pool will start filling up (it takes a few days). And the plaster continues to cure underwater, so we don't have to wait to start the filling. When the pool gets drained at the end of the season, our second logo will be installed in the east wing to match the one in the west wing - the second logo was delayed in manufacturing and we didn't want to delay the plaster/filling.
Plastering was completed on Wednesday afternoon and the pool is now filling.
