For folks wondering what's going on at the pool, this year is more than the normal drain/clean/refill cycle... We're having the pool replastered, where they drain the pool, chisel away a fair amount of the old surface, and then lay down a new coat of plaster. This is something that happens every 8-10 years, and it takes a while.

One bit of good news is that the work permits us to detect any issue with the pool structure, the same way one would look for cracks along the foundation of a house. Happy to say that NV (and several Directors who were observing) found no issues.

The plastering will get finished today, and the pool will start filling up (it takes a few days). And the plaster continues to cure underwater, so we don't have to wait to start the filling. When the pool gets drained at the end of the season, our second logo will be installed in the east wing to match the one in the west wing - the second logo was delayed in manufacturing and we didn't want to delay the plaster/filling.

Plastering was completed on Wednesday afternoon and the pool is now filling.

Our Dog Swim Day was a great success! We probably set a record for the number of dogs who went swimming, and even our non-swimming dogs had fun on the grassy sections of the pool.
I'll post pictures tonight or tomorrow - thanks to Kareen Schofield for taking so many. Please add your own pictures or comments.

A special note goes out to Chelsea - she was tireless, fetching tennis balls from before noon and was the last dog out today. I'm thinking that maybe we should come up with a GBPC "SwimSafe" tag for dogs.

News from the pool – Thanks for a great season!

With less than ten days until closing, the Board and the NVPools team want to thank the membership for a great season We wish all the members a wonderful Fall, Winter, and Spring, and we’ll be back in touch in the Spring of 2026 as we get ready for the next Summer!

We bid a fond farewell to Angie Lander, who has served on the Board this year and took care of all the picnics and special events. She will be moving overseas - too far to commute to board meetings - and I'm sure the entire club wishes she and her family the best.

Labor Day weekend will be our last weekend. On Friday the 29th (no school!) the pool will open at 11 AM. On Labor Day itself (9/1), there will be no guests permitted, and will have burgers, dogs, and possibly brats for sale – our thanks go out to Directors Chance and Gus – perhaps we need a new Board role called Grilling & Smoking to go along with Operations & Maintenance.

We will have our annual Dog Swim Day on Saturday, September 6th. More information will be coming out in the week ahead, but if you're ready, feel free to click below to register your dog (and read the rules)!

These earbuds were found in the pool parking lot after the Monday night swim meet. If they're yours, please call the pool at (703) 378-4423 and the guards will note your name and number and set them aside for you.

We'll have another dive make-up meet (an away meet rescheduled from 7/1) at noon on 7/11. The pool (except for the wings) will be closed at 11 AM for the warmups and meet, and we hope to keep a quick pace and return the pool to the membership in time for the afternoon and evening.

The storms are forecast to continue for the rest of the evening, so the Pool will close at 7 PM on 7/9/2025.

Our Tuesday home dive meet was cut short by weather, so it will continue this Thursday. The dive well and center section will close in the afternoon (set up starts at 4 PM) and the wings will remain open for QUIET folks. With only two age groups to complete the meet may end earlier than normal.

The swim team had an exciting start to the season with a victory against neighboring Sully Station, with a final score of 245-169. It was exciting to see so many time drops and personal bests for our swimmers. The second dual meet is this Saturday at home against Villa Aquatics.

Our Dive Team's home meet against Great Falls was great! We won our first meet of the season and had 1st place finishers in 6 age groups! Amazing!!

Our exterminator came out and treated the sand pit area (the sand and the grass) against the recent infestation of Poplar Weevils, and it appears to be working. There will be times when we need to close off the playground areas because landscaping/maintenance/exterminators need the space clear for safety, and they will also be closed during morning swim practices before the pool opens. There will be light chains with signs up when we need folks to keep clear of an area - parents please make sure your children (especially the ones who are walking but not reading yet) stay out of the areas when they're closed.

We did have a stall door in the men’s room come off its hinges and break a toilet, but there was nobody in there to be injured, and both have been replaced. And while we had some incidents last year of young men having water wars and damaging shower curtains, this year has been much better. The Board understands that accidents happen, but we have no tolerance for horseplay where the facilities are damaged or (worst) someone is injured.

This is just a reminder - we permit lap swimming from 1P-3P and from 7P-9P daily. When requested (and only when requested), the guards will put up a lap lane marker and will close the nearest diving board for the time, and if there are more than three swimmers doing laps they may open a second lane. When there is an event such as a dive meet, or a special event, lap swimming will not be available.

We have a small(ish) pool, and the only way this works is by everyone being cooperative and understanding. Lap swimmers can help by understanding that the guards may take some minutes to get the lap lane up, and perhaps can assist the guards by swimming the lane line to the far end as part of their warm-up. Divers (team practice or fun diving) can help by being cooperative and careful while using the remaining board. And finally, folks playing in the shallow end can help by being careful not to let their activities spill into the lap lane (keep the basketballs under control).

The pool club is going to put a laundry basket in the baby pool area next week to serve as a 'toy box' so that members with young children can leave toys to be used by other members. Sort of like the little library, it's a way for our community to share, and to avoid having to schlep toys to and from the pool every day. With that said, this is not a way for folks to dispose of junk they don't want any longer, and folks are cautioned not to leave a 'favorite' toy in the basket, because it may go missing. Parents are expected to make sure that any toys borrowed are returned clean, and that any broken toys are thrown away, particularly if they have any sharp edges. Bottom line, we're going to try this and see how it goes, and too much drama will cause the Board to cancel the program.

Members – PLEASE CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND! We’ve got so much stuff (towels, goggles, clothing) left behind that we’ll probably have to make an early donation run near the end of the month. We will put up a notice on the web site and Facebook with a few days warning before we make the donation.
