Parkinsons Wellness Program Featured in UND Digital Storytelling Summit
Altru Family YMCA of Grand Forks is honored to have been selected as one of the community organizations featured in the University of North Dakota’s 2026 Digital Storytelling Summit.
During the week-long program, high school students from North Dakota and Minnesota partnered with local organizations to create short documentary-style videos highlighting the people, programs, and services that make a difference in our community. Students spent time learning about the YMCA Parkinson’s Wellness Program and produced a video showcasing the impact of the program on participants and their families.
The YMCA appreciates the students, faculty, and organizers who helped share this story. We are grateful for the opportunity to highlight the importance of wellness, community, and support for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.

🔻On 6 June 1844, a small group of young men led by George Williams gathered in London with a bold vision: to support the spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing of young people in a time of profound social change.
182 years later, that vision continues to live and grow. Across the world, YMCA empowers communities, creates safe and inclusive spaces, amplifies youth voices, and stands firmly for peace, justice, and equity for all.
💡If George Williams were walking among us today, he would recognise the challenges of our time—and he would stand with us. He would champion the same mission, driven by the same belief: that young people deserve opportunity, support, and a community where they can truly thrive.

Did you know that more older children and teens drown in open water than in pools? A day at the beach or the lake is fun for kids, but open water also has risks, which are different from those in a swimming pool. According to the United States Coast Guard, 87% of people who drown while boating were not wearing a life jacket. Be aware of situations that are unique to open water, such as limited visibility, depth, uneven surfaces, currents, and undertow.
