Another Special Certificate: Around the world at the equator is 40,075,000 meters. The lead dog on our GIR meter sled has always been Tom Odle. He has now rowed around the world more than four times, and his lifetime meter total is in excess of 160,300,000
meters. I asked Concept2 to make a special certificate to acknowledge his fantastic achievement and I received it today. It is already hanging on the wall at Greenville Indoor Rowing.

Congratulations, Tom, on an incredible effort. Row On!

Special Concept2 Certificate: I just hung a new certificate on the wall at the studio this afternoon. Concept2 created a special certificate to verify that for the 17th year in a row, Greenville Indoor Rowing was the number one team in the world, in their Health / Fitness category, for meters generated on Concept2 machines. As you can see on the certificate, we rowed almost 127 million meters during their rowing year.

I cannot tell you how proud it made me to hang that baby on the wall and how extremely proud I am of our awesome community of rowers. Think about that...17 years in a row. Row Strong and Live Long and have fun while doing it.

Meter Milestone: Luci Floyd

This morning near the end of our 9:15 class, I heard a voice from the back row of ergs shouting, "6 Million" and I looked up and saw Luci holding up her fist. She was acknowledging that she had just passed the 6 million lifetime meter mark.

Congratulations, Luci, you should be very proud of yourself.

Meter Milestone: Catherine Thornton

On Monday Catherine reached the 6 Million Lifetime Meter mark in our 9:15am class. And by now you know what that means, a party is not that far behind. Well, today was the day and here is the after-class celebration. Catherine is the one in the peach-colored top standing front and center.

Congratulations, Catherine, very nice effort. Row on. Your new certificate is printed and will go up tomorrow at the studio.

New Crew Member: Carol McKaba

Carol reached out to me several weeks ago seeking a private training session. She has her own erg at home and wanted to improve her times. We did the session and she was pleased with the suggestions and the results. I told her to come and try a free class as it is a totally different energy and vibe than rowing alone.

She did that free class and really enjoyed it. She came back this morning to do another class and to buy a 10-class punch card.
So, she is now officially a GIR Crew Member. Welcome, Carol, to the GIR family of indoor rowers.

Meter Milestone: Jack Turner

Received this text message from Jack this morning: "Good morning, Lowell. Recently passed 23 million meters."

That's what I would call short and sweet. I'll bet Jack didn't think rowing 23 million meters was short and sweet though. Congratulations, Jack, very impressive. Your new certificate will go up this afternoon. Row on, Jack, row on!!

Meter Milestone: Ken Pelanda

Ken is one of our GIR instructors and he led our 6am class this morning. I got a text from him shortly before noon and all it said was "I eclipsed 16m today".

That was it: no pictures, no fanfare, no big deal. Just OK, there is one goal reached, now on to the next one. Congratulations, Ken, well done. and it was a big deal in my book. Row On!!

Meter Milestone: Jean Horney

Got a text this morning from Jean, letting me know that she hit her target of 10 million lifetime meters while I was on vacation last week. She said she wanted to wait until I got back but then got too anxious and went to her local Y to "finish the deed".

Congratulations, Jean, very well done. Order that free 10-million-meter sweatshirt from Concept2 and wear it with pride.

Meter Milestone: Mike Davis

Mike is one of our GIR rowers that also has his own erg at home. He sent me an email with an attachment a few minutes ago. It said:
Lowell:

Welcome back home. Hope KI was fun and provided enough sun!

I hit 9MM this morning...finally.

Mike D

Congratulations, Mike, nice work and great dedication. I have already printed your new certificate and will get it hung up tomorrow.
