💙 Trainer Tip Tuesday 💙

If you lived most your life chasing skinny, it’s going to take some time to turn your mindset around. Take it from some of us more "mature" (in age at least) who have spent many of our adult years following fads, correcting false beliefs, and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

But the good news is, IT’S NOT TOO LATE to teach yourself the truths about being fit and healthy, and looking and feeling your best! We are all a work in progress and constantly evolving. Just be willing to do things differently if you feel like what you’re doing isn’t working.

🛑 STOP CHASING DIETS
Sometimes eating *less* isn't the answer, and you may actually need to eat *more* of the right foods/fuel to build muscle. It's very difficult to build muscle when you're in a calorie deficit.

⬇️ LESS CARDIO. ⬆️ MORE WEIGHTS.
Cardio is beneficial, for sure, but if you don't incorporate weight training you'll be missing the opportunity to create that shapely, sculpted firm body look that weight-training provides.

🍝 CARBS DON'T MAKE YOU FAT
Carbs are your friends. The truth is that overeating *anything* is what creates fat. Having balance in your diet, including a wide variety of nutritional foods in the proper proportions will help fuel your body well.

⚖️ SCREW THE SCALE
Weighing less doesn't mean "looking better" and chasing a number on the scale can leave you running in circles. A body that has more muscle will look leaner and tighter, even though it weighs more. The body you want may weigh more than you think!

I grew up staying pretty active, but never really worked out until about 10 years ago. I started going to a small boot camp class and then to Orangetheory and loved the group classes. I did that until I was 7 months pregnant. Fast forward a year and a half and I had a one-year-old and felt gross and out of shape.

Driving to work one day, I saw a sign for Burn Boot Camp and knew that’s what I wanted to do. I signed up from the beginning and have loved it since. I originally wanted to lose baby weight and I have lost that and more! Through focus meetings, I have gotten my eating habits under control and it’s become a way of life. I honestly love coming to class every day and hate when I have to miss it!

Not only have I lost weight, inches, and body fat, but I’ve gained strength, friends, and healthy habits. Overall, I’ve lost over 20 lbs, 13 inches, and 10 percent body fat.

There’s a sign in the gym that says “ If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you”. This is something I say to myself daily as a reminder that I can do hard things!

📣 BIG NEWS Burn Hoover! Our NEW FLOOR is arriving this week and will be installed this Saturday!!! 🥳

In order to make that happen, we are going to make a couple of small adjustments to our schedule this week:

1) Wednesday & Saturday protocol will switch places. Expect PLYO & CORE STRENGTH on Wednesday and BODYWEIGHT CONDITIONING on Saturday.

2) We will have ONE co-ed camp at 8am on Saturday morning at the soccer field in front of Trace Crossings Elementary (5454 Learning Ln). There will be NO child watch. There will be NO CAMPS inside the gym this Saturday.

3) If you can't make it to the outdoor camp at 8am on Saturday, we will be providing a whiteboard workout in our private Facebook group at 6am. There will be NO FB Live and NO Zoom workout this Saturday, June 18th.

Thank you so much for understanding! We can't wait to enjoy that new floor next week!

⭐️Trainer Tip⭐️ CARDIO CAMP FORMATS: Not all cardio is created equal. To get the most out of each workout style, we need to understand the structure for each type of cardio workout, our own RPE, and how to apply the two as we are performing the exercises.

RPE = Rate of Perceived Exertion

RPE is a good *personal* gauge of the intensity or difficulty of your workout. An RPE may vary based on how you feel that day, and is different between a strength and a cardio day. The chart attached is a good general overview.

GOALS for ATHLETIC CONDITIONING
- Power, Strength & Endurance
- Longer intervals (45+ seconds), where you want your exertion to stay consistent during the entire interval
- Goal RPE: 6-7

GOALS for SPEED & AGILITY
- Working at your *fastest* speed AND working on your footwork.
- Focus on speed. A trainer would rather you modify to simplify and move *faster* than move slower in a more complicated move.
- Short intervals where you may have to take breaks even within that time interval in addition to resting between intervals
- Goal RPE: 8-10

GOALS for BURST TRAINING
- Working to *rapidly* increase heart rate and effort.
- Working in the interval to a RPE of 8-9 and keeping RPE at 6-7 during active recovery
- Intervals will likely be somewhere between the shortest intervals of speed & agility and the longer intervals of athletic conditioning.
- Goal RPE: 8-9 (during work intervals); 6-7 (during active recovery)

Burst will have short intervals like speed and agility, but will always be intervals of 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of work to active recovery.

GOALS for CARDIO & BODYWEIGHT CONDITIONING

- These two workouts can be a mix and match of all of the above workouts, often divided into subsets within the full 45 minute workout.
- There may be short intervals where you are expected to hit that RPE of 8-9, or longer intervals where members are expected to maintain that endurance of 5-7.

If you have questions about the expectations of a particular workout, ask a trainer if he/she hasn’t told you during the warm-up or demo!

Every time you say YES to one thing, you're saying NO to something else. That applies to everything in life, but let's think about it in terms of fitness & health:

This week, let's practice saying "No, thank you," to a terrible nutrition choices, not enough sleep, and commitments that don't allow us time to take care of our health.

And let's say "Yes, please!" to healthy meals, a reasonable bedtime, and 45 minutes a day to move your body.

Think hard about every YES you grant. Does it match your values? Your goals? Your schedule? Your commitments?

We hear you Hoover, and we agree -- it's TIME for a NEW FLOOR! 🙌🥳 We've ordered a *brand new*, top of the line, latest-technology spring floor, with an improved top layer of padding--and it's COMING SOON! 😍

We'll keep you posted on it's installation date as soon as the rest of the elements arrive (some have already come in). In the meantime, get ready for some HAPPY JUMPING!

Our Story

Burn Boot Camp is a fitness community where like-minded women come together, build confidence, and inspire one another through fitness. Camps are offered multiple times throughout the day, last 45 minutes, and are comprised of 72 different styles and 15 different formats. Workouts take place on our proprietary Floating Floor with individualized attention in a group fitness setting. Clients learn far more than just healthy eating and exercise tips at Burn Boot Camp, as the concept strays from the competition by operating on a five pillar philosophy to help clients achieve success: mindset, whole food nutrition, burst training, strength training and positive environment.
