Join the TerraForm(ed) Collective on April 18th at 3 pm for Nature Stories, our performance in conjunction with National Water Dance. This national movement draws attention to the fragility of our waters and move with one voice for responsible stewardship of our Earth. The dance will guide the public through Midtown Park and the community will be invited to add their own “Nature Stories” to the chalkboard in response to the dance they are witnessing.

Houston Met Dance is honored to be selected as a Cycle 1 awardee through Midtown Houston’s MicroGrant Program for Art That Works. At Houston Met Dance, we believe public art can be both inspiring and useful. Through Nature Stories, we’re excited to create a dance that will guide the public through Midtown Park, reflecting creativity, function, and connection in shared space. We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring this idea to life and contribute to the evolving public realm in Midtown Houston.

Come Jam with us every 2nd and 4th Friday night!

Contact Improvisation is an evolving system of movement initiated in 1972 by American choreographer Steve Paxton. The improvised dance form is based on the communication between two moving bodies that are in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion—gravity, momentum, inertia. The body, in order to open to these sensations, learns to release excess muscular tension and abandon a certain quality of willfulness to experience the natural flow of movement. Practice includes rolling, falling, being upside down, following a physical point of contact, supporting and giving weight to a partner.

Every session features a facilitated workshop at 6:30pm, followed by an Open Jam Space from 7:30 - 9:30pm No - Preregistration required
