Tarleton State just beat Bowling Green 20-13, their second straight win over an FBS opponent. This breakdown is on last year's tape, and the identity on film is exactly what showed up on the field this weekend.
H-Iso is an old-school Pro-I isolation run, the same downhill play you grew up watching out of the I-formation, just packaged out of modern personnel. The H-back inserts as the lead blocker, the running back follows him downhill, and it comes down to who is tougher.
The play action off it is where things get interesting. Same quarterback ride, same H-back insert action, and routes built to attack the exact space the run defenders vacate. Slant behind a linebacker filling his gap. Hitch when the corner plays with cushion. A slot fade over the top the moment a safety gets too aggressive in the run fit.
Stay deep and Tarleton has the numbers to run H-Iso all day. Trigger downhill to stop it and the play-action game attacks the space that commitment creates.
Same picture every time. The answer just changes based on how the defense reacts.

Some of the best offenses in football history have been built around a simple idea: find a run you can hang your hat on, force the defense to stop it, and then build the passing game off the same action.
