🌊 Palm Beach County has become one of the most expensive places in Florida to call home. Between housing costs, insurance, property taxes, and rent, locals are already paying more than enough just to live here Now the County is considering adding another fee just to park at the public beaches many of us have been enjoying for years I don’t support it. Our beaches are one of the things that make this community special, and I don’t think access should become more expensive for the people who actually live here 🏖️ 📞 This reel has the contact information for the County Commissioner representing each beach. If you have an opinion, now is the time to share it. Be respectful, be clear, and make sure your voice is heard before the vote. wha Wha WHAT !?!?

There’s a little swell ?!?

This morning, more than a few of us with OC1’s were thinking “hmm, maybe should have brought the boat and called in late to work …”.

Fueled with new found bravado after Sunday’s huli-drills, we sent both crews out the inlet to what we thought would be a flat morning to start getting ready for Lanakila Iki Ocean Challenge !!

Well, there was No wind, but, a small swell was pushing around making for some fun out and backs and a major uphill grind back through the inlet into a still crushing outgoing tide!!!

Ultimately , it was LOTS of fun out there, great driving from Heather and Chase and good teamwork and grinding from everyone , and , welcome back to Lezlie Biro !!!

As always, we are eternally grateful to Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County for our grant that has been immeasurable to the club’s growth in the community and our ability to support the first responder community through our partnership with the incredible Saddle and Sea Foundation !

Champion SUP paddler, PBC fireman, and now PBOCC member Jake Portwood gets recognized for the top rescue of the year!!!

There were 6 of us, just some gung-ho club members who ventured out to go surf one of our Bradley OC6’s on a nice overcast clean 4ft day.

We had a few rides and it was all going fine until we zigged when we shoulda zagged and took the break of one wave over the back of the canoe and pow! we were 5 men (and a woman) in a tub !

We didn’t huli but we were fully swamped and couldn’t bail our way out of it, believe me, we tried, but wave after wave kept refilling any efforts.

Finally we managed to get the canoe north and east and outside of the break, we huli’ed it over and back and finally were able to bail it out enough to start paddling again.

We were coming in on the north side of the inlet over that sandbar there, and thought we were well on our way to make it back on our own. We saw the rescue jet ski coming out and even signaled to them that we were OK, right when a set wave jacked up and completely swamped us again! 

It was a bit of a mess, two of us were separated from the canoe (they bailed!) and we’re picked up on the sled before the guys came back to secure the canoe to the jet ski and tow us back in to Dubois.

The whole thing didn’t last very long, but the skill and precision and efficiency of the rescue was outstanding, absolutely deserving of this award.

We’ve learned a few things since then about surfing the big canoes, and we’ve now made a bunch of great relationships with a bunch of great people in the fire department as well as Ocean Rescue now being part of them.

Wherever you are, support your first responders, hopefully you never need them but if you do, you’ll be grateful that they train for everything, every day , even an open ocean rescue of a full OC6 crew !

Saddle and Sea Foundation

Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce “Call of the Year” I don’t usually talk about this side of my life but on September 10th 2025 my professional and recreational lives met while I was on shift. I got a phone call from a friend that he received an alert from his wife’s Apple Watch that she was in trouble and located in the ocean by Jupiter Inlet, at the same time an “Open Water Incident” call came across our tones. My crew and I responded on our rescue water crafts (wave runners) with emotions running high knowing my friend was in trouble. We arrived to find a 6 person outrigger canoe stuck in 4’-6’ surf with out flowing tide about 1/2 mile outside the inlet. As we approached a head high wave crashed on them pulling 2 paddlers 200 yards away from the canoe and filled the canoe with water. The OC6 paddle crew was stuck in a “conveyor belt” with the surf crashing on them, pushing them in and the tide pushing them back out into the surf. After we stabilized the 2 separated paddlers we were able to make contact with the half submerged canoe, tie off to them and maneuver them into safe waters. All 6 paddlers and the canoe made it in safely. Since this incident @pboutrigger has opened their doors to all local first responders & veterans to come paddle with them. This has created a healthy relationship with between the paddle community and our local hero’s! @salty_palms @taddeo15 @thejimbo561

Last night, the junior class swept the 106th Kamehameha Schools Song Contest and took home the Charles E. King Cup. All four grade levels participated in the annual event, representing the culmination of months of preparation.
