For the instructors in training, the ones who are prepping for an audition, and the ones who are dreaming of the day. Here are some tips I wish someone told me when I started eight years ago!
You don’t have to change who you are to fill up a class. You don’t have to change what music you play (if you like Taylor Swift please play Taylor). You don’t have to change how you speak. You don’t have to look a certain way. People are drawn to authenticity and when you're yourself, people will be theirselves and boom you have a community.
When you start teaching you're gonna wanna show off, and that's normal. But when your body starts to feel all those workouts you're gonna want to sit down. Don’t be afraid to modify your workout it'll keep you going longer and it'll teach your participants that it's okay to modify too.
Building a class takes time especially at the start. Reuse songs, notes, playlists. Make things easier on you!!! Most the time people don’t remember what they did in the last class and reusing things will let you build confidence and focus more on the folks in front of you.
