COLD PLUNGE? WE HAVE ONE AT FC. 🧊

Recovery deserves a place in your routine, too.

Cold-water immersion may help reduce post-exercise muscle soreness and improve how recovered you feel after a hard effort. It’s one option to consider alongside the basics: sleep, nutrition, hydration and sensible training.

Timing matters. If building muscle is your main goal, routinely plunging immediately after lifting may work against muscle growth. Ask Eli how it could fit your training plan.

FC Personal Training Studio has a cold plunge right here in Longview. Curious about trying it? Message us or call/text 903-387-0361 to ask about access and getting started.

Cold plunges aren’t appropriate for everyone. Check with your healthcare professional first, especially if you have heart, blood pressure or circulation concerns.

MOVE MORE WITHOUT TURNING IT INTO A WORKOUT 🚶

If you spend large parts of the day sitting, use a short movement break instead of waiting for the perfect time.

Try this 5-minute reset:
• walk for 2 minutes
• complete 8–10 controlled sit-to-stands
• do 8 wall or counter push-ups
• make 5 slow reach-and-rotate movements per side
• finish with another easy walk

Keep the effort easy and use a comfortable range of motion. This does not replace planned strength or aerobic training, but it is a practical way to break up sitting and add movement to the day.

CDC guidance says adults can spread activity across the week and break it into smaller chunks of time.

MAKE PRODUCE EASIER TO USE 🥦

Fresh is not the only useful option. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables count too—and they can make weekday meals easier.

Try this:
• use fresh produce for meals you’ll make first
• keep plain frozen vegetables for quick sides
• keep frozen fruit for yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothies
• choose canned vegetables with less sodium when practical, or drain and rinse them
• choose canned fruit packed in water or 100% juice

The best option is the one you will actually use before it goes to waste. Keep one fresh choice and one shelf-stable or frozen backup available.

PROGRESS DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN MORE WEIGHT. 💪

If an exercise is working, you can progress it in more than one way:
• complete one more clean rep
• use the same reps with steadier technique
• move through a consistent range of motion
• add a small amount of weight after you reach the top of your rep range
• repeat the same work with an appropriate effort

Example: if your target is 8–10 reps, build from 8s toward 10s before adding weight. When you increase the load, return to the lower end of the range and build again.

Change one variable at a time and record what you did. Progress should be measurable—not random.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN FC CONSULTATION? đź‘‹

You do not need to arrive with a perfect plan—or already be “in shape.”

The first conversation is about understanding:
• what you want to accomplish
• what you have tried before
• your current training experience
• the schedule you can realistically maintain
• whether private or semi-private coaching fits what you need

If FC is a good fit, we’ll outline a clear starting point and the next steps. If it is not, you will still leave with a better idea of what kind of support you are looking for.

FITNESS MYTH: MORE SWEAT MEANS A BETTER WORKOUT. đź’§

Sweat is part of how your body manages heat. How much you sweat can change with the room temperature, humidity, clothing, exercise intensity, and your individual response—so sweat alone does not grade the quality of a session.

Use a better scoreboard:
• Did you complete the planned work?
• Did your technique stay controlled?
• Did you use an appropriate effort?
• Can you compare the weight and reps with last time?
• Can you recover and train consistently?

A hard workout may leave you drenched. A productive workout may not. Judge the session by the work you performed and the progress you can track—not by how wet your shirt is.

RECOVERY STARTS BEFORE BED 🌙

A simple wind-down plan can make sleep less random:

• choose a realistic bedtime and wake time
• keep them as consistent as your schedule allows
• turn off phones, tablets, and other screens at least 30 minutes before bed
• keep the room quiet, relaxing, and comfortably cool
• write down tomorrow’s first task so you do not have to keep rehearsing it

This is not about creating a perfect night every night. It is about making a useful routine easier to repeat.

The CDC recommends consistent bed and wake times and turning off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.

THE SIMPLE 2-PART SNACK FORMULA 🍎

When you want a snack, start with two parts:

1. A protein food
2. A fruit, vegetable, or whole-grain food

Easy combinations:
• Greek yogurt + berries
• Apple + peanut butter
• Cottage cheese + fruit
• Hummus + vegetables
• Eggs + whole-grain toast

You do not need a “perfect” snack. Keep one or two combinations available that fit your preferences and routine.

The Dietary Guidelines emphasize nutrient-dense choices across food groups. This is a practical way to put that idea into action—not a rigid rule.

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU REST BETWEEN STRENGTH SETS? ⏱️

Rest long enough to make the next set productive—not just long enough for the timer to beep.

A practical starting point:
• Heavy compound lifts: about 2–3 minutes
• Moderate accessory work: about 60–90 seconds
• Technique practice: enough time to feel focused and controlled

Then use performance as your guide. If your reps drop sharply or your range of motion changes, add 30–60 seconds before changing the weight. Short rest can make a workout feel harder, but harder is not automatically better for strength.

The goal is repeatable work you can track and gradually improve.
