What exactly happens in Adult Horsemanship?

Honestly — it isn't exactly the same every Sunday. And that's part of the fun.

We may work on:

• Grooming, tacking and handling
• Groundwork and communication
• Riding skills and position
• Horse behavior and body language
• Barn and horse-care skills
• Tack and equipment
• Whatever questions the group brings that week!

The goal is to create capable, confident horse people — not just riders.

🐴 More Than Just Riding Lessons

Riding lessons can teach kids so much more than how to ride a horse.

At Wind Dance, we want our young riders to learn the whole picture of horsemanship — building confidence around horses, learning responsibility, understanding how to care for them, and developing the skills to handle and ride safely.

That means lessons can include grooming, tacking, horse care, handling, barn skills, and plenty of time in the saddle as they progress.

Along the way, they’re learning patience, problem-solving, independence, responsibility, and how to communicate with a 1,000-pound animal. 🤍

Our goal isn’t just to create better riders. It’s to help create capable, confident horse kids.

🐴 What Does a First Riding Lesson Actually Look Like?

Starting riding lessons can feel a little intimidating — especially when you’ve never been around horses before. That’s exactly what beginner lessons are for.

At Wind Dance, we don’t expect new riders to show up already knowing what to do. Your first lessons are about getting comfortable, building confidence, and learning the basics from the ground up.

You’ll start learning things like how to safely approach and handle a horse, groom, tack up, understand basic horse behavior, and of course — begin learning to ride.

There’s no rush to “keep up.” We meet riders where they are and build skills from there.

Whether your child has been begging to ride for years or you’re the adult who has always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity, beginners are welcome here. 🤍

🍂 Hello, September from Wind Dance 🍂

There’s something special about this time of year at the barn. Cooler mornings are coming, the horses are starting to enjoy a break from the summer heat, and we’re heading into fall with lots happening at Wind Dance.

This month we’re looking forward to riding lessons, Adult Horsemanship, plenty of time spent with our horses, and welcoming some new faces to the barn. 🤍
