Past SIETAR- Minnesota presenter, Kao Kalia Yang has a new book out.

Today, author Kao Kalia Yang is launching her 10th picture book, “The Blue House I Loved”.

It was fun catching up with her last week and hearing more about what makes this latest book special to her. It’s about much more than just a house on the east side where childhood memories live, but a story for all of us.

Speaking of childhood memories, we talked about how Richard Marx and his music was such a big part of growing up for us. Yes — for some reason — his ballads seemed to be a big part of growing up in many southeast Asian immigrant homes, regardless of what generation. “He was our introduction to American music,” she said.

The International Institute of Minnesota is relieved and cautiously optimistic about the announcement of the conclusion of Operation Metro Surge and the removal of thousands of federal immigration agents from the Twin Cities. Today, we are relying on the administration’s words, but there is still cause for concern. The proof of this announced conclusion will be in the reality of what happens in our community.

As we move forward, our immediate priority is those who are still detained. If you know someone who is still in detention, please contact our immigration intake line at (651) 377-8642 and leave a voicemail message and we will return your call.

In the days, weeks, and months ahead, we must work together to repair the harm inflicted by this operation. Your continued support helps our students and clients regain safety, dignity, and stability that was lost.
