One of the biggest contributors to cardiac drift isn’t fitness.

⛽️It’s fueling.
“Why is my heart rate so high today?”…When glycogen starts running low, your heart rate often starts climbing while your power stays the same (or drops). Suddenly that endurance pace feels very suspicious.

Your body isn’t trying to be dramatic. It’s just asking for carbs.

So here’s your reminder:
🍌 Eat before you’re hungry
🍬 Fuel before you’re tired
🚴 Treat carbs like part of the workout because they are

Your aerobic engine can only do so much if you forgot to put gas in the tank.

Your Garmin can’t power your legs. Only carbs can do that.

Everyone wants a bigger FTP.

Nobody wants to hear that the answer might be riding easier. 😅

Cardiac drift (aka decoupling) is one of the best indicators of your aerobic fitness.
🫀If your heart rate keeps climbing while your power stays the same, your body is basically sending you a little message: “hey... we’re working harder than we should be right now.”🌶️

The good news? That’s trainable.

Build the foundation. Ride your endurance rides like endurance rides. Eat your carbs.

Training isn’t always about going harder. Sometimes it’s about getting better at the boring stuff.

Have you ever have one of those weeks where everything looks dialed on paper…and then absolutely none of it goes to plan?

Work runs late. Sleep’s off. Legs feel like bricks. Suddenly your ‘perfect evening spin’ turns into…not that.

This is your gentle reminder: you’re allowed to detour.

Training isn’t about executing everything perfectly...it’s about adjusting intelligently.

Sometimes that means backing off. Sometimes it means swapping the workout or pushing it until later in the week. Sometimes it just means riding easy and calling it a win.

Training doesn’t have to be so ridgid!

Summer is about to summer!!!! Long rides. Group rides. “I’ll just spin for an hour” that turns into three. This is what we trained all winter for… so go enjoy it.

Be honest… what are you actually doing before your rides?

And then comes that lovely first 15–20 minutes where everything feels slightly…off.

Over a month ago already (yikes 😅) Coach Otte ran a half marathon… and PR’d it.

And in the weeks leading up to it she kept getting the same question:
“Were you training for it?”

Yes… and no.

About 8-ish weeks out she added a few longer runs.
But the real answer? SHE TRAINS ALL THE TIME. 💪
