ZONE GYM TIP OF THE WEEK: PERFECT YOUR RUNNING FORM! 💪
Perfect running form isn't about looking like an Olympian. It's about moving efficiently, staying consistent, and making every mile count!
1. Stand Tall
Keep your head neutral, eyes looking ahead, shoulders relaxed, and chest comfortably upright. Avoid hunching forward.
2. Relax Your Arms
Bend your elbows around 90 degrees and swing your arms forward and back. Avoid crossing them excessively over your body.
3. Avoid Overstriding
Aim for your feet to land relatively close beneath your hips rather than reaching far out in front. This can help reduce unnecessary braking forces.
4. Keep Your Stride Smooth
Think light, controlled steps rather than big bounding strides. Don't force a specific cadence, find a rhythm that feels natural and efficient.
5. Build Your Strength
Strong glutes, calves, hamstrings, and core muscles help support running mechanics and control. Strength training belongs in a runner's routine!
Coach's bonus tips
- Breathe naturally: Find a breathing rhythm that matches your effort.
- Lean slightly from the ankles: Keep your body aligned rather than bending at the waist.
- Warm up first: Start with a brisk walk and gradually build your pace.
- Don't ignore pain: Persistent or worsening pain is a reason to stop and get assessed.
Remember: There isn't one perfect running form for everyone. Your goal is efficient, comfortable movement that works for your body.
