💃Hear from Maitri Acharya about her Certamen Experience!💃
"I had the privilege of competing in the 2025 Flamenco Vivo Certamen Competition Estudio Level and was grateful to receive a scholarship to continue my training in Sevilla. I now see that the competition was not an endpoint, but the beginning of new opportunities and artistic growth. The experience encouraged me to think more broadly about my path, take creative risks, and pursue further development as an artist. In the months that followed, I applied for local arts programs and am fortunate to be selected for the Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant and the NC Dance Festival Artist-in-Residence Program.
The momentum I gained through Certamen continues to shape my work. It has given me a renewed sense of purpose as I continue to train, create, and share my work with others."
FLAMENCO CERTAMEN USA Applications are due Monday, June 29th at 11:59PM

Meet the musicians joining Karen Lugo next week at SOHO LIVE!
No esTABLAO brings together three extraordinary artists for an evening of live, unrehearsed flamenco encounters.
Panagiotis Andreou () is a Greek-born, 2x Grammy-winning bass player and one of New York’s most sought-after creative musicians. A founding member of the New York Gypsy All-Stars, he moves fluidly across electronic jazz, Latin, Balkan, and world music traditions.
Ricardo Sanchez () is a Mexican flamenco guitarist born in Guadalajara, celebrated for his ability to bridge flamenco with other musical traditions and incorporate new sounds into his work. A performer, composer, and musical director, he has brought his artistry to festivals across the Americas.
Together with Flamenco Vivo Guest Artistic Director Karen Lugo (.7), they take the stage with nothing agreed upon in advance. No setlist. No script. Just the improvised spirit of flamenco pushed into new territory.
This is flamenco unbound.
