The backdrop for this event will be the wonderful city of Rome.
Our event will be held just a few kilometers from “the Eternal City", in Fiano Romano, which will become the World Hwa Rang Do® Capital for a week of fantastic events led by our Founder, Do Joo Nim Dr. Joo Bang Lee and his eldest son, Grandmaster Taejoon Lee.

Development of internal energy, Ki Power, through meditation and breathing exercises.

It deals with one’s internal energy (Ki power) development, control and direction, through both passive (um) and active (yang) methods. Ki power development is taught via specialized breathing and meditation exercises in conjunction with specific physical exercises. The practitioner learns to develop, harness, and apply this human energy resources at will. Initially, it was studied for health purposes and for use in the battlefield; at more advance levels this power can be controlled in conjunction with mental processes and can be extended from one individual to another for healing as well as combative applications. This internal energy is the Life Force found in all living creatures and through the disciplined study of Hwa Rang Do® one can learn to develop this power for truly outstanding displays of human energy and will, extending previously conceived limitations to unlimited possibilities.

There are five different senses of Ki which can be developed after you practice Hwa Rang Do’s® ki(power) development exercises:

Kyung Ki – making the body light
Jung Ki – making the body heavy
Chyel Ki – making the body hard as steel
Ma Ki – making the body numb
Shin Ki – increasing mental concentration and awareness

𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 ...

For centuries the Hwarang played a dominant role in Korean society, serving as model leaders and statesmen and as the driving force behind the unification of the Korean peninsula. During the Silla dynasty (57 B.C. - 935 A.D.) they and their disciples were referred to as Hwarang-do (화랑도 花郎徒 - Followers of the Hwarang). In the subsequent Koryo dynasty (935-1392 A.D.) their presence is attested in historic sources by references to the Kuksŏn-do (국선도 國仙徒 - Followers of the Kuksŏn) or P'ungwŏl-do (풍월도 風月徒 - Followers of P'ungwŏl).
References to the Hwarang come to an end after the fall of the Koryo dynasty. In 1392 a Hwarang general (or Jang-gun 장군 將軍) named Sung-Kye Yi overthrew the Koryo Dynasty to establish the Yi Dynasty (also called the Choson Kingdom 조선 朝鮮). His son, King T'aejong Bang-Won Yi, fearing that the powerful Hwarang generals could bring an end to his own rule, initiated a policy that put all their personal soldiers under the control of the king. The growing influence of Confucianism was another factor in the decline of the predominantly Buddhist Hwarang. Buddhist lands and treasures were confiscated and some Hwarang generals sought refuge in the mountains along with the Buddhist monks.

For the next six centuries the ancient Hwarang combat skills and culture survived only in seclusion.

The concepts and techniques associated with the Hwarang were passed secretly from generation to generation, from monk to monk, in the mountains of Korea. 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀.

𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱.

This means of transmission continued until that Hwarang title was passed to the monk 𝗦𝘂𝗮𝗵𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗮 (수암선사 修岩禪師 - 𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗮𝗵𝗺 𝗗𝗼𝘀𝗮 도사 道師). 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟱𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲-𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟵𝟰𝟬'𝘀 𝗗𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗲 & 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

In the early 1940′s Suahm Dosa began teaching Dr. Joo-Bang Lee and his brother Joo-Sang Lee at the Sok-wang Sa Temple (석왕사 釋旺寺) in North Korea. These two brothers had initially begun their martial skills training under the direction of their father, who taught them from the time they were old enough to walk. 𝗟𝗲𝗲’𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝗮𝗵𝗺 𝗗𝗼𝘀𝗮, 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗺-𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝘄𝗼𝗻 (음양권 陰陽拳), 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. These brothers thus began their training with Suahm Dosa at the ages of four and five.

This was the beginning of a father-son relationship between the brothers and this monk that lasted for almost thirty years (1942-1969).

…“ Lady Jiso maintained her loyalty to her husband and because he died it did not absolve his mandate. Her loyalty does not die with her husband, but it dies with her. Loyalty is something that we offer, what we give to another, and it should always remain at the center of our hearts no matter what. What value would loyalty or love have if one were to only keep it when it served them, only when it pleased them and when faced with any hardship or displeasure change their mind and retract their vows? The value of loyalty, of love is derived from the extent in which one is willing to suffer to keep it.

Moreover, Lady Jiso was not only loyal to Yushin Kim, but she was loyal to what was right in her heart and as she believes her husband did what was right, so she upheld the decree. Was that easy for her? Of course not, it must have been the hardest decision, but she sacrificed her self-happiness and wellbeing for her loyalty to her husband, even after his death and in so doing to the law, to God.

In today’s society this would never happen and there would be no Wonsul, no person who would understand duty and honor, sacrificing their life for others as taught and supported by parents and the entire culture. Can you imagine today a child coming home and complaining to the mother that her teacher gave her a failing grade and that her feelings were hurt in some way, or that she lost in a game of dodge-ball, or some child said some things that offended her making her cry, and the mother tells the child to suck it up, be strong and to defend for herself? This would never happen today and it is truly unfortunate as our society, the powers at large are creating a victim culture, only blaming others and never taking accountability for themselves and their actions, incapable of independent thought, dependent on social acceptance leading to mob rule. When self-preservation is valued over self-sacrifice, we forfeit our true freedom to the delusion of being free.”…
