Rooted with Colleen Therapist at Inner Balance Wellness Center

10/30/2026

Thursday night plans: pajamas, a cozy blanket, a pug, and Zoom yoga teacher training. 🧘‍♀️🐾

Tonight’s topic: The Business of Yoga.

One thing I love about this journey is discovering how much yoga and mental health overlap, while also learning an entirely new side of building something I’m passionate about.

There’s always something new to learn, even when you already have a few degrees behind your name. 😂

And apparently, Hercules has decided he’s part of the training too.

You can understand why someone behaves the way they do and still decide their behavior isn’t okay.

Empathy doesn’t require you to excuse hurtful behavior.

You can recognize someone’s trauma, understand their patterns, and have compassion for their struggles without continuing to put yourself in situations that hurt you.

Two things can be true:
🤍 They may be doing the best they know how.
🤍 You can still need something different.

Understanding someone doesn’t mean abandoning yourself.

Understanding someone and excusing their behavior are two very different things.

You can have compassion for what someone has been through without continuing to put yourself in situations that hurt you.

Empathy and boundaries can exist at the same time. 🌿

🌿 A little reminder for tonight:

You don’t have to have everything figured out to be making progress.

Some days, growth looks like big changes.

Other days, it looks like getting through the day without being so hard on yourself.

Both count. 💚

What’s one small way you’ve grown this year?

Different person. Same relationship. Different font. 😂

Ever wonder why you keep finding yourself in relationships that feel strangely familiar?

Sometimes we aren’t consciously choosing the same type of person. We’re repeating emotional patterns we’ve learned along the way.

And recognizing those patterns is the first step toward changing them.

A little self-awareness can save you from another season of the same relationship with a different cast. 🌿

Which slide hit a little too close to home?

🎤 Seeing It Sooner: Helping Clients Recognize Unhealthy Relationship Patterns 🚩💚

This week, I had the opportunity to present my CEU training at The Meadows!

We explored attachment styles, family-of-origin influences, red flags, emotional manipulation, and the patterns that can keep people stuck in unhealthy relationships. And, of course, we talked about what healthy relationships actually look like!

One of the things I’m most passionate about as a therapist is helping people understand not just what happens in relationships, but why we sometimes find ourselves repeating the same patterns.

It was such a great experience getting to share that passion with fellow mental health professionals, have meaningful conversations, and hopefully provide some new tools they can bring into their work with clients.

A huge thank you to The Meadows for the opportunity and to everyone who joined the conversation!

Looking forward to more opportunities to educate, connect, and keep these important conversations going. 🌿

“I remember it all too well…” 🍂

Sometimes healing isn’t about forgetting what happened. It’s about being able to remember without being pulled right back into it.

The memories may still be there. The story may still matter. But with time, reflection, and healing, it doesn’t have to hold the same power over you.

You can remember it all too well—and still move forward. 🌿

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be presenting my first continuing education training for mental health professionals this month! 💚

Seeing It Sooner: Helping Clients Recognize Unhealthy Relationship Patterns

This CEU training focuses on helping clinicians recognize unhealthy relationship dynamics earlier and support clients in understanding the patterns that can be so difficult to see when you’re living inside of them.

This topic has become such an important part of my clinical work—and of what I’ve been building through Seeing It Sooner and Rooted with Colleen—so getting the opportunity to teach it to other professionals feels especially meaningful.

📅 Friday, October 23
📍 The Meadows Outpatient Center – Chicago

A little nervous, a lot excited, and incredibly grateful to be stepping into this next part of my professional journey. 🌿

I’m also grateful for the continued support of my colleagues at Inner Balance Wellness Center as I keep growing as a clinician, educator, and presenter. 💚. Mental health professionals who would like to attend can register using the link on the flyer!
