is back at Summer Circus Celebration this year teaching his Soft Acrobatics Workshop on Friday 8/15 from 2-3:30pm.

Soft Acrobatics is a method of approaching acrobatics that gives precedence to continuity and flow, while also paying attention to the efficiency and softness of the body. The practice is designed to be portable, in the sense that once you are comfortable with any number of movements, you can take the practice to any surface. I situate the practice somewhere between dance and athleticism, expressivity and physics in motion. Beyond this, the primary tenets involve moving your spine, shifting weight into your hands, and going upside down. Specific movements often are drawn from a variety of physical practices: contemporary dance, circus acrobatics, martial arts, breakdancing, and more.

Summer Circus Celebration is four days of celebrating our vibrant circus community at Kinetic Arts Center in Oakland, CA. No one turned away for lack of funds. Please DM us if you need financial assistant. Workshop passes and performance tickets available at the links in our bio.

Bailey Bjorn is a passionate aerialist and instructor based in Logan, UT. She grew up doing AA gymnastics through my teenage years, and bought her first set of aerial silks somewhere around 2020 and hung them up in my dad’s mechanic shop. It wasn’t heated, but her dreams survived the freezing Utah winters, and she kept practicing. She is now an Aerialympics region champion, the head coach of a youth circus, and an AP certified aerial instructor!

You have two opportunities to learn from .ley_087 at Summer Circus Celebration!

She’s back again this year on Aerial Hoop, Friday 8/14. We’re excited to see Kristine on a new apparatus! If this clip is any indicator, her incredible hair is still supporting her gorgeous, flowing movement style.

Can you conquer the July Circus Challenge?

Step 1: Plank position. Feet on a slider (a sweatshirt can work if you’re on hard floor), yoga block on your back.

Step 2: Seal walk across the floor without dropping the block. Keep your core tight to avoid wobbling side to side!

Try it next time you come in to Kinetic Arts Center and add your name to the board. Take a video and tag KineticArtsCenter so we can share your accomplishments. Not local? Try it at your home studio and tag us!
