Priorities of work:

The internet debate of zero distance, barrel length, and height over bore has been done so much it’s nauseating, especially when you see so few people actually confirming zero when necessary.

Every time you land at a new deployment location, hunt, or training venue, getting a confirmation of zero should be your first priority after dropping your bags.

In a pinch when live fire wasn’t an option, we’ve clamped down a rifle into a position and ensured the sights and bore were roughly aligned on an object in a safe distance. Is it perfect? No, but better than wondering if your optic got knocked a foot off at 25m after bouncing around planes, trains, and automobiles.

Surprise:

Let’s talk about what it takes. You are either going to have to go blindingly fast, or come in quietly from a long way off- then to blindingly fast.

They all take a level of athleticism and conditioning to execute on and they all require a degree of silence to execute that most, including people with sh*tloads of raids, often don’t understand or fail to grasp.

Let’s talk about the work to get there and why it’s so challenging. Physical fatigue can massively impair cognitive function. So when you’re trying to speak without using words on the radio, when you’re working to move from shadow to shadow, when you’re trying to move quickly and have every step be nearly silent- the mental bandwidth necessary is beyond what most people grasp. It’s why so many of us chased that feeling for so long.

None of this works as it should when you’re built like a bag of potatoes or your aerobic base isn’t there.

Surprise, speed, violence of action are the principles, but hard skills and fitness are the foundation.

Mindset:

This is a concept most people talk about in a way that is by nature counter productive. They focus on right of bang- basically an internal pep talk that when it all goes down they’ll rise to the occasion. As with most things, this is an attempt to skip the work and arrive to the easy solution.

The mindset that actually matters: growth mindset vs fixed mindset.

Why does that actually matter? It’s the difference between pursuit of the process and pursuit of the outcome without giving credit to the process of improvement.

When your mindset is centered around improvement in the process, the outcome is a forgone conclusion- without the tough talk.

To simplify- your mindset should be to suck less- this requires introspection and self assessment, then working to improve. Zero tough talk needed. Focus on the work, the results follow.

Back to running tiny pistols as hard as I can. There’s some guys like who absolutely rip on them and really show what they are capable of.

With .arms magazines and red dots, there’s really not a downside to pistols of this size.

As if it wasn’t hard enough to remember stages, now I have to remember to move my shirt out of the way when I reload.

Tech Update:

We finally launched the closed Android beta of 3E! If anyone wants in on it, we need their Google account email to add them to the test list. We’ve been really focused on getting Android going; now we’ll be able to pivot back to features. Email

We identified an issue with Garmin that caused some data to be missing or stale. Basically, they’d send the daily data with a timestamp, then send follow-up data in a different timezone, so our system saw the update as older than the first batch of data and skipped it. We went ahead and backfilled about 4500 updates, so you might see your historic data shift.

Programming is getting added as quickly as possible; we’re taking some time to clean up the instructions so that the prescriptions shown support workout scaling. When we roll that update out, we’re aiming to add dynamic font scaling so the tiny instruction fonts are easier to read for sh*tty or old eyes.
