KENNA MITCHELL TOPS THRILLING NASCAR LATE MODEL ACTION IN ROSEVILLE
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (June 14, 2026) – A hot night and the closest competition of the season yielded a familiar winner with Loomis’ Kenna Mitchell prevailing in both 40 lap features for the NASCAR Berco Redwood Late Models on Saturday night at Roseville’s All American Speedway. Mitchell’s wins headlined the Edge of Summer which included Trey Daniels taking top honors in the INEX NorCal Legend Series feature as well. Photo by Christian Rozell
The tempo for the night was established early on when Madera’s Joey Kennealy – the 2025 division runner-up – led Mitchell in time trials. That placed Kennealy onto the pole for the first 40-lap contest with Mitchell to his outside. Kennealy led the way for the first 14 circuits.
A lap 14 restart gave Mitchell an opening, driving around the outside of Kennealy for the lead. Kennealy ran within a car length of Mitchell throughout the final 26 laps, but it was Kenna Mitchell earning her seventh victory of the season.
The second 40-lap event was inverted and rewarded a hearty crowd of race fans with the best feature of the season in a nighttime thriller. 16-year-old Hayden Stepps of Oakdale paced Kennealy, Mitchell, and Long Beach’s Donald Witkowski in a tight formation as they dueled for the top spot.
Jockeying and bumping led Mitchell into second past Kennealy on lap 24. Mitchell hounded Stepps then dove to the inside in turn two with ten laps remaining. Stepps shut the door and the duo made contact, briefly lifting Mitchell’s no. 7 machine off the ground before they separated. Three laps later, Mitchell dove underneath Stepps again in turn two and was able to clear her to make the decisive pass for the win. Kenna Mitchell wrapped up her eighth consecutive NASCAR Berco Redwood Late Model feature win followed by a career-best runner-up effort for Hayden Stepps. Witkowski nabbed third from Kennealy with Lincoln’s Kylie Glick finishing fifth.
“Lot of battling there for that one. It was fun. Had to use the nose a little bit. Just wanted to make sure the car in front of me kept her straight and didn’t want her to wreck. She turned down more than I expected so I got off the gas and made sure we all got straight again,” Mitchell said. “Thank you guys all for coming out and sticking it out in the heat today.”
Trey Daniels of Fort Bragg led the way in the 35-lap INEX NorCal Legend Series feature, paying points for both All American Speedway and the NorCal tour. 2025 Roseville champion Robby Czub led the way in the feature while Daniels battled with familiar NorCal foes of 2025 NorCal champion Brandon White of Eureka, ARCA and Trans Am veteran Tanner Reif, and Friday winner Kai Lovell for second. Daniels was clear off the duel by the 15th lap then stormed towards Czub, taking the lead on lap 18.
A caution with eight laps to go did not deter Daniels as he clinched the victory. Reif took second followed by Lovell, Czub, and White.
The largest NASCAR Modifieds field of the season brought on a first-time Roseville Modified winner with Calvin Hegje of Orangevale earning the trophy. 2025 champion Tyler Wentworth of Rocklin suffered a mechanical failure at the start of the 30-lap feature and was unable to continue. Hegje faced immense pressure from Josh Blackwood of Loomis and Nick Lyons of Loomis throughout the race but maintained his lead at the checkered flag. Jarred Hess returned to All American Speedway to finish fourth while Woodland’s Timm Williams also made a return appearance in fifth.
A meaningful week turned to a big win for 2025 NASCAR Street Stocks champion Tim Walters, with Walters topping his division’s best turnout of the season for victory. Walters welcomed a new baby boy during the week and helped organize the strong field of drivers who competed. Walters had to fend off his teammate Rich Lavallee for the victory with the two no. 32s finishing at the front of the field. Orville Owens made a strong impression in his first start of the season to finish third followed by Cody Rickard and Stephen Ghilarducci of Ukiah.
Vic Theberge of Citrus Heights extended his points lead by taking the NASCAR Mini Stocks feature win. Lincoln’s Brandon Frantz was second followed by Elverta’s Ray Molina, Richard Rowland, and Stephanie Ziebell.
All American Speedway takes a break for summer activities before racing resumes in a big way on July 25 with the NASCAR Midsummer Classic. All five championship divisions return along with the ground pounding NCMA Sprint Cars. Tickets and info at www.allamericanspeedway.com
