🐾 Welcome to Ruston Animal Shelter! 🐾
Saving Lives, Four Paws at a Time 🐶🐱 Live humane traps are available at no cost for use by Ruston residents.

The Animal Control Department supports the humane treatment of animals inside the Ruston city limits, through operation of the Ruston Animal Shelter, educational programs, and enforcement of City and State laws. Ruston Animal Control officers investigate cruelty cases as well as complaints about barking dogs, aggressive animals, livestock running at-large, or other nuisance animals inside the city limits. Animal Control officers check these traps and tend to impounded animals on weekday mornings. Animal Control staff also removes dead animals from roads inside Ruston. Call Ruston Animal Control at 318-251-8685 Monday-Thursday 7:00 am to 4:30 p.m. and 7:00am-11:00am on Friday. For information about or to report any of the following:

The Ruston Animal Shelter, located at 1212 McAllister Street, is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am - 4:30 p.m. And 7:00am-11:00am on Friday. People looking for a pet are encouraged to visit the Shelter and consider adopting from a shelter first. Shelter staff will be happy to provide selection assistance and pet care advice. You will need to agree to an adoption contract and pay a small adoption fee that includes a certificate for free sterilization of the adopted pet. Please contact Animal Control if you’re looking for your lost pet. We may have picked up your pet. There is a small boarding fee for reclaimed pets.

🚨🚨 RUSTON, WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. THE DOGS ARE GETTING PROPERTY RIGHTS. 🚨🚨

After years of running around with absolutely nowhere to clock in, the dogs of Ruston are FINALLY getting their own park. 😭🐕 We’re cutting a ribbon, opening the gates, and giving these four-legged menaces a designated location to conduct their daily business of sniffing strangers, committing zoomies, and acting like they pay the mortgage.

BRING YOUR DOG. Bring your neighbor’s dog if your neighbor is cool with it. Bring the dog who has never known peace a day in its life because the cat keeps slapping it. This is THEIR moment. The grass is fresh, the gates are ready, and somebody’s dog is absolutely going to embarrass them in public. We just don't know whose yet. 💀

There will be humans, dogs, and an unreasonable amount of excitement over a patch of grass. Honestly, the dogs have no idea what a ribbon cutting is, but they heard the word park and have already started barking at the walls.

🎄❤️ RUDOLPH GOT ADOPTED! ❤️🎄

Looks like Rudolph won’t be spending Christmas at the shelter this year! 🥹❤️ This sweet boy has officially found his forever home, and we couldn’t be happier knowing he’ll be making memories, stealing hearts, and soaking up all the love he deserves this holiday season.

Some Christmas miracles come wrapped in pretty paper with a big red bow, and others come with four paws, a wagging tail, and a nose that might just lead you straight to your heart. 🐾🎁 Rudolph’s next chapter is filled with the promise of warm cuddles, a family to call his own, and a lifetime of being loved.

From our shelter family to his forever family, we hope his days are merry, his belly is always full, and his Christmas mornings are filled with more love than he knows what to do with. ❤️🎄 Merry Christmas, Rudolph! You may have found your home, but you’ll always have a little piece of our hearts. 🥹🐾

Meet Minnie, the sweetest little girl who believes personal space is a government conspiracy and belly rubs are a constitutional right. 😭 You barely get acquainted with this girl before she’s flopping onto her back like she just got hit with a tranquilizer dart. Ma’am, WE JUST MET. 💀

Now, Minnie is a little shy at first, so she might need a minute to decide you aren’t secretly three raccoons in a trench coat. But once she starts feeling comfortable, she’s ready to show you her sweet side, and apparently, her entire underside. She’s got trust issues and a belly rub addiction, and honestly, we support her journey.
Minnie’s love language is physical affection, specifically the kind where you rub her belly until your arm falls off and your responsibilities become someone else’s problem.

She will be accepting applications for her personal belly rub technician, and the benefits include unconditional love, tiny paws, and being emotionally manipulated by the cutest face you’ve ever seen. 🫡

This distinguished little doodle gentleman goes by Zach, and he is currently accepting applications for his missing human. He’s got the hair of a retired substitute teacher and the face of someone who definitely knows he’s handsome. Unfortunately, we don’t know where his people are, and this curly-haired man is starting to look like he’s been stood up for a very important business meeting. 😭

Zach was found and is now hanging out at Ruston Animal Shelter while we try to figure out where he belongs. If you recognize this fluffy little man, know who his owner might be, or have any information that could help get him home, please reach out to us! Let’s get Zach back to his people before he starts requesting a manager. 🐾

Duke is the sweetest, most polite man you will ever meet, and frankly, the dating pool needs to take notes.

Duke is SO loving it’s actually getting ridiculous. Somebody give this man a mortgage, a retirement plan, and a little sweater because he is READY to be somebody’s lifelong companion. He’s out here giving unconditional love like he has absolutely no bills, no responsibilities, and a 401(k) he doesn’t have to worry about.
We genuinely believe Duke was raised by a family of southern grandmothers because this man has RESPECT. He would probably apologize for being in your way while simultaneously being the best thing that has ever happened to your household. Meanwhile, some people out here can’t even put the toilet seat down. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. 😭

Everyone meet Walnut! We believe that this little gentlemen fell out of a tree and rolled into the shelter and that is why he is currently running on one brain cell only.

While we discuss this cute load of fluff we will not be discussing how he looks like he sells fake concert tickets behind a Waffle House... Walnut also has the face that looks like he got burnt out from working 3 different jobs he never had. 🫩

While some people think they can rock a mustache, Walnut came into creation to show us that no one can do it better than him. 👨

If you are looking for a young kitten who seems to know the perfect facial expression for being behind on a mortgage payment for 3 months and will never give you your personal space back, Walnut is your man!

Meet Splotch, a tiny little calico girl who is approximately 90% fluff and 10% cat. She is so small and fluffy that she looks like someone took a regular kitten and accidentally hit the “extra floof” button.

Her little run is quite possibly the cutest thing ever witnessed by human civilization. She comes trotting around on her tiny legs like she has somewhere extremely important to be, despite the fact that she weighs approximately three business days.

Splotch is also VERY vocal and has apparently appointed herself the official spokesperson for the kitten department. The second she sees people, she starts meowing at them like she has a full presentation prepared and frankly, we are not going to interrupt her.

If you’re looking for a tiny, fluffy, adorable little calico with a hilarious personality and plenty to say, Splotch would like to formally introduce herself. She’s cute, she’s fluffy, she’s chatty, and she has the tiny little zoomies to prove she is absolutely serious about her career in being adorable. 🐾💕

🐾ADOPTED!!🐾

Meet Winston, a sweet little gentleman with the face of a Disney prince and the personal boundaries of a tiny, fluffy bouncer. His trust isn’t handed out like free samples at Costco. Winston likes to observe you, study your character, and determine whether you are, in fact, a decent human being before granting you access to the VIP section of his heart.

Winston would also like it officially documented that men have cooties. He’s not exactly their biggest fan at first, but give him some time, let him get to know you, and eventually you may be promoted from Suspicious Man to Friend Status, which is basically a knighthood in Winston’s world.

Once Winston decides you’re one of his people, that trust is pretty darn special. He’s sweet, silly, and absolutely worth the application process, background check, three references, and probably a notarized statement confirming you are not a terrible person. Come meet Winston and see if you have what it takes to pass the Winston Human Decency Committee.
