City Racquet Shop Premier Racquet Shop serving the Bay Area I am Bryan Chung, and I am proud to be the new owner of City Racquet Shop!

While I may be a new face at the shop, I am not at all new to our favorite sport. I've been playing for nearly a decade and a half, including having the good fortune to participate in some international tournaments. I'm also a tennis instructor who has been volunteering with the Gay & Le***an Tennis Federation. I've also been restringing rackets for over 12 years, so you can rest assured that Marla and Sheila chose well when they turned the shop over to me!

Balls sailing long? Before you rebuild your forehand, it's worth checking whether the racquet is helping.

Bryan's first instinct is the player: where you're making contact, and whether you're getting enough spin to bring the ball down. Then he checks the frame, because he sees it constantly at the store. Oversized head, big sweet spot, multifilament strings, all of it adding power you didn't ask for and can't steer ๐ŸŽพ

His honest verdict is that it's usually both. Your technique adapts to whatever you're holding, so a frame that's too powerful quietly teaches you a swing that only works with that frame.

Comment your problem and we'll settle it ๐Ÿ‘‡

Swung. Missed. Packed up. Went home ๐ŸŽพ

No point continuing after that. The court saw it, the net saw it, the trees saw it. Some misses you just accept and start your drive.

Tag someone who's whiffed this hard ๐Ÿ‘‡

We asked Julio what's actually holding new players back, and it wasn't technique.

It's the racquet they walked in with. Usually something that's been in a closet for twenty years, sometimes a wood frame, grip falling apart, a string or two already popped ๐ŸŽพ

His advice is the least salesy version possible: most of the time, a fresh grip and a fresh string job on the racquet you already own is enough to get you going.

And if you're not sure what suits you yet, the subscription program is $25 a month with unlimited switch outs. Keep a frame as long as you want, try another when you're ready, figure it out at your own pace.

Coming back to tennis after a long break? Bring the old racquet in and we'll tell you honestly whether it needs replacing ๐ŸŽพ

"I've got a match tomorrow and my racquet's dead."

Here's the actual math. Same-day restring is $65 for labor. Wait a week and it's $35, so the rush costs you $30 ๐ŸŽพ

Or join the racquet subscription at $25 a month. You walk out with a racquet today, you're playing tomorrow, and switching frames is included for as long as you're in.

Most people don't realize the third option exists until they're standing at the counter with a match in less than 24 hours.

Got a match coming up? DM us and we'll sort you out before the week of ๐ŸŽพ

October is Gear Refresh Month at City Racquet Shop! ๐ŸŽพ

Weโ€™re making room for new inventory, which means I want to find homes for some of the great gear we still have in the shop.

For the month of October, weโ€™re offering two special ways to save and get more with your purchase.

**๐Ÿ‘Ÿ REMAINING TENNIS SHOES โ€” OCTOBER CLEARANCE**

We have a limited selection of tennis shoes and sizes remaining in the shop, and we want to get them onto the court!

For October 2026 only, remaining eligible shoes are **[26% OFF]**.

Sizes and models are limited, and once theyโ€™re gone, theyโ€™re gone.

**๐ŸŽพ PREVIOUS-GENERATION RACQUETS โ€” FREE RACQUET ESSENTIALS PACKAGE**

Previous generation doesn't mean outdated.

We still have some fantastic racquets from previous generations, we want to give you everything you need to get your new racquet ready for the court.

Purchase an eligible previous-generation racquet during October and receive our **Racquet Essentials Package FREE**, including:

๐ŸŽพ **One set of synthetic gut strings**
๐ŸŽพ **Complimentary stringing labor** with our standard 7-day turnaround
๐ŸŽพ **One overgrip**
๐ŸŽพ **One City Racquet Shop dampener**

Youโ€™ll leave with a complete setup that's ready to play โ€” and we can help you choose the string tension and setup that makes sense for your game.

**Not sure which racquet is right for you?**

That's what we're here for.

Come into the shop, tell us about your tennis, what you're currently playing with, and what you're looking for in your next racquet. We can help you compare your options and figure out what makes sense for you.

# # # OCTOBER ONLY

Both promotions end **October 31, 2026**, or when eligible inventory sells out.

If you've been thinking about getting new shoes or finally picking up a racquet you've had your eye on, October is a great time to come see us.

See you at the shop!

We just had to share!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to send an important update today because City Racquet Shop's racquet subscription program will begin transitioning to a new structure starting October 1.

Over the past year, I've learned a lot from watching how everyone uses the program. Some customers simply want an affordable racquet to play with, while others want to try different equipment and learn more about what racquet and setup works best for them.

Before I announce all of the new options we're developing, I want to make sure our existing members know what is happening with their memberships.

# # # YOUR CURRENT MEMBERSHIP IS BEING GRANDFATHERED

If you have an **active Bronze or Silver subscription as of September 30, 2026**, you will automatically become a **Legacy Member**.

There is nothing you need to do.

**Legacy Bronze โ€” $15/month**

If you're currently a Bronze member, you will be able to continue your existing membership at your grandfathered **$15/month** rate.

**Legacy Silver โ€” $25/month**

If you're currently a Silver member, you will be able to continue your existing membership at your grandfathered **$25/month** rate.

Beginning in October, we're also planning to add an additional benefit for Legacy Silver members:

**1 complimentary stringing labor per month on a subscription racquet with our standard 7-day turnaround.**

Strings are purchased separately.

# # # WHAT DOES "LEGACY" MEAN?

Beginning October 1, Legacy Bronze and Legacy Silver will no longer be available for new enrollment.

These memberships are being preserved specifically for the customers who participated in and supported our original subscription program.

As long as your membership remains continuously active, you will keep your Legacy status and grandfathered monthly pricing.

If you cancel your membership and decide to return in the future, your Legacy membership will no longer be available and you would enroll under whichever programs and pricing are available at that time.

# # # SOMETHING NEW IS COMING

October will also begin the next stage of our racquet subscription program.

One of the biggest things I've learned from running the program is that people use subscription racquets for very different reasons.

Some people simply need a racquet so they can get on

Most people have a stance they default to without ever deciding on it. Usually whichever one their first coach drilled hardest.

Julio's point is that the ball picks for you. Closed when you've got time to turn and step through it. Open when it's coming fast, or you're stretched wide and need to rotate and recover ๐ŸŽพ

The players who look effortless aren't better at one stance. They're just not attached to either.

Which one do you default to? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Nine times out of ten, the person who says they "fell off" with tennis didn't lose their swing. They lost their standing hit. Life got busy, the group chat went quiet, and the racquet went in the closet. The Tennis Den fixes the actual problem: it's a room full of people who want to play as much as you do. Free to join, come find your people. ๐ŸŽพ

Partner cancelled? The wall has never once cancelled on anybody.

It's the most underrated practice partner in the city. The ball always comes back, so your timing sharpens whether you want it to or not. And it exposes footwork fast, because if you're not moving properly you end up lunging and tight within about two minutes ๐ŸŽพ

Racquet, one ball, any wall. That's the whole setup.

Where's your go-to wall in SF? Drop it below ๐Ÿ‘‡
