Come take a closer look at our artists in Sindhoor Natya - Navarasa’s upcoming production of Encounter.

Shalini Nagarajan is excited to be participating in her first Sindhoor Natya production. Originally from Chennai, India, she has lived in the Bay Area for 26 years. Nagarajan was regularly involved with the world of theatre in India, with various acting and directorial roles under her belt. Although she lost touch with the stage after immigrating, she still regularly enjoyed attending plays and musicals.

Nagarajan is grateful and excited to return to acting after decades thanks to her good friends Anil and Aparna. When she isn’t at the theater, you can find her traveling, cooking, or spending time with her dog. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Miralo Moon (Miraló Moon ), a native of San Jose, CA, draws inspiration from the sun while embracing the mystique of the moon. He is eager to share his musical talents and spread joy, laughter, and love through his art.

“As a proud Mexican, I am passionate about contributing to the world and am ready to share this passion with all of you.” His aspiration is for individuals to see him on television, the big screen and in advertisements and feel a sense of connection, thinking, “Wow, I see myself in him. He is Latino, he is Mexican. He is proud of his identity and represents us.” He believe’s it is crucial to address the underrepresentation of Mexican individuals and the LGBTQ community to demonstrate to the world that regardless of one’s identity, appearance, or background, anything is achievable.

[ARTIST SPOTLIGHT]

Come take a closer look at our artists in Sindhoor Natya - Navarasa’s upcoming production of Encounter.

Shreya Kiran (Shreya Kiran ) is a dedicated dancer who began training in Bharatanatyam at the age of five. She has participated in numerous competitions and performances throughout the Bay Area. Since 2023, Shreya has been learning Mohiniyattam while continuing to refine her Bharatanatyam practice. In 2024, she joined Sindhoor Natya - Navarasa Dance Theatre, and is actively partaking in shows. She is also learning Kalari, an Indian martial art, under the guidance of Guru Anil Natyaveda.

Even though she was born and brought up in Fremont, California, Shreya is extremely fond of her Indian values and culture. She discovered that she felt deeply connected to the experience of art, allowing her to represent her individuality. Being an emotional and insightful individual, art encourages Shreya to be lost in thoughts and feelings that can be difficult to communicate through words alone. She values the freedom and imperfection within the creative process, viewing art as a meaningful way to understand herself and the world around her.

ENCOUNTER is a provocative work with daring physical theater and powerful storytelling. Inspired by Magsaysay Award-winner Mahasweta Devi’s story, the production follows the journey of Dopdi, an indigenous woman whose resistance against injustice becomes a compelling testament to courage, resilience, and human dignity. Choreographed and directed by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda, with a script by S.M. Raju and Aparna Sindhoor, ENCOUNTER features an evocative original score by National Award-winning composer Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. The production presents contemporary choreography, drawing from Bharatanatyam and Kalarippayattu Indian martial arts, along with aerial acrobatics on a 13ft pole and live singing to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally charged performance. Having toured extensively in the US, Canada, and India with more than 100 performances, ENCOUNTER has received praise for its originality and artistry.
