Sand Point had a great time sprint racing all day at Green Lake. So many members wanted to race that we moved into the AA division for the first time. After winning 1st place in 15+ OC6 races, and sometimes sweeping the top 2 or 3 positions, we earned enough points to win the AA division. Many of our members won in individual V1 races as well. It wasn’t all about the wins though. The food and vibes in the SPOCC area along the lake were hard to beat!

This comes on the heels of the Spanaway sprints where many of our members made up the majority of “Team Cascadia” winning the most races and the most points overall there too. Sprint season is fully underway!

When Mt. Rainier comes out to make sure you don’t skip any of your intervals 👀 We had 8 crews out training for the upcoming OC6 race season. Here at Sand Point, we love training together.

On Sunday we had a canoe blessing for our brand new OC6, ‘Alala. A Malolo Pro that weighs only 100 pounds. ‘Alala makes it 7 OC6 canoes for our growing club and our third Malolo having just purchased Ka ‘Io last year. ‘Alala continues our naming trend of using native Hawaiian birds. In Hawaiian, ‘Alala is a type of intelligent crow but it also has a double meaning of a kind of war cry or chant reminiscent of the vocal bird. We hope to bring a little bit of that intelligence and energy on the race course!

On Saturday, Sand Point hosted the championship race of the winter series. Thank you to all the racers and volunteers that made Saturday’s Championship race happen. The weather was great and the vibes were better! Thank you also to everyone who helped us honor the memory of Kai Bartlett. His legacy lives on through this sport we all love 💙
