Drowning doesn't discriminate β€” but the risk isn't equal.
Anyone can drown. It's fast, often silent, and doesn't care about age or skill level.

But the data tells a deeper story:
🌊 Black people under 30 die from drowning at 1.5x the rate of white people β€” rising to 3.6x higher for Black kids ages 10-14.
🌊 In pools specifically, that gap jumps to 7.6x.

Why? Not ability β€” access. Generations of segregated pools and unequal access to swim lessons still shape who grows up water-confident today.
Water doesn't discriminate. Access to safety often does.

Water Safety Wednesday: be sure to remove pool toys after swim time.

Toys left in or around the water can attract curious kids back to the pool when no one’s watching, creating a serious drowning risk. A quick cleanup helps prevent accidents and keeps your pool area safe.

πŸ›‘ STOP SCROLLING.

You know the #1 rule: supervise near water.
Here are 2 more layers of protection β€” backed by research.
1️⃣ Swim lessons. Early.
Formal swim lessons = 88% lower drowning risk for kids 1–4.
(Brenner et al., Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine)
Not "drowning-proof."
But it builds skills supervision alone can't teach. 🏊
2️⃣ Fence the pool. All 4 sides.
A fence that fully separates the pool from house and yard = 83% lower drowning risk vs. a 3-sided yard fence.

Why it matters:
70% of childhood drownings happen when no one expects a kid near water at all.

The takeaway:
Supervision + swim lessons + barriers.
Layers save lives.
