❤️ WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST OF SPRINGFIELD!

This is pretty exciting!

Balance Yoga has been part of the Springfield community for more than 5½ years, through two locations, lots of growth, and so many wonderful students along the way.

This year, we’ve been nominated for:

🧘 Best Yoga Studio
🧘‍♀️ Best Yoga Teacher: Angie Ryan
📚 And apparently Best Living Local Author too! Someone told me they saw my name there, although I haven’t found that category yet. 😊

I’m incredibly grateful.

Balance Yoga is a small, locally owned studio, and your support is what has allowed me to keep doing what I love: teaching people to understand their bodies, move better, breathe better, and hopefully feel better in their everyday lives.

If Balance Yoga or my teaching has made a difference for you, I’d love your vote!

Voting is open through August 17 and I believe you can vote once a day.

And whether you vote or not, thank you for being part of Balance Yoga over these last 5½ years. 💙

Big Love,
Angie

✨ A few spaces remain this Saturday ✨

Join us for a gentle, restorative practice centered around the third chakra, our center of confidence, inner strength, and personal power.

We’ll begin with 30 minutes of slow, supported movement to create space through the ribs, diaphragm, and upper abdomen. Then you’ll settle comfortably into the props for a 30-minute guided meditation designed to help you reconnect with your own light, strength, and potential.

This will be a quiet, deeply supportive practice with plenty of bolsters, blankets, and props to help your body fully relax.

I spend a lot of time teaching people that movement is not about making perfect shapes. It is about understanding your body, improving how you move, and finding practical ways to support your daily life.

Now those conversations have a new home!

💙 Introducing **Body Mechanic Notes: The Balance Yoga Blog**

The first two articles are already waiting for you:

• Why Beginners Often Thrive at Balance Yoga
• Balance Yoga Owner Angie Ryan Talks Wall Yoga on NPR Illinois

I’ll continue adding articles about yoga, body mechanics, breathing, movement, and the everyday habits that can affect how our bodies feel.

A little “pinch me” moment! 🎙️

I was recently interviewed by Jeff Williams for Community Voices on NPR Illinois!

We talked about Balance Yoga, the Great Yoga Wall, my journey into teaching, and why I believe yoga should be accessible to real people living in real bodies.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share the work I love and the heart behind Balance Yoga with our community.

There was a time when I thought becoming a better yoga teacher meant learning more poses.

Learning the next arm balance.
The next inversion.
The next “advanced” posture.

And don’t get me wrong... I still love teaching movement. I love helping people understand why their body moves the way it does and how small changes in alignment can change the way they feel.

But somewhere along the way, something shifted.

I realized that a flexible body doesn’t necessarily create a peaceful mind.

These days, I’m just as interested in how the practice makes us feel as I am in what our bodies can do.

Can you notice your breath slowing?

Can you recognize the moment your shoulders soften?

Can you observe your thoughts without believing every one of them or immediately reacting to them?

Can you leave class feeling more like yourself, more grounded, safer in your own body, and maybe even with a sense of freedom that wasn’t there when you walked in?

That’s the yoga I’m most interested in teaching.

Because while stronger muscles and healthier joints matter, so does learning how to quiet a busy mind, calm an overwhelmed nervous system, and create a little more space between what happens to us and how we respond.

And maybe that’s the real measure of progress, not only what our bodies can do, but how the practice shapes the way we feel, respond, and live beyond the yoga mat.
