As we prepare to host the first-ever USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing League Championships on the West coast next year, we're pleased to offer Intercollegiate and IEL Team Challenges alongside our Eventing Championships next month.

❓ Who can participate? For the Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL), rising 5th through outgoing 12th grade students are eligible to participate; for Intercollegiate, enrolled undergraduates and graduate students may participate in this Team Challenge. Scramble teams can be assembled if you're flying solo for your school or program, and teams can be combined across levels.

❓ Can my barn have a team? Yes! Barns are eligible to create IEL teams as shouldas the riders fall within the required grade range.

❓ How do I participate? Easy! Once you've sent in your entry for the Eventing Championships, email your registration of interest in being placed on a scramble team or have your team representative send your roster to Kim Goto at [email protected]. Each team should have 3 or 4 members, with a drop score being assessed for groups of 4. Intercollegiate schools or IEL Clubs that have more than 4 members that would like to participate are welcome to field multiple teams.

🌟 Did you know our 3* and 4* cross-country course designer, Clayton Fredericks, has just been awarded his first CCI5*?

In case you're unfamiliar with the sport of eventing, only six CCI5* events actively exist in the entire world! To have the opportunity to design one is a career goal for any course designer, and to have his first come in his home country of Australia at the Adelaide Equestrian Festival is icing on the cake for Clayton.

And before this latest achievement, Clayton had an incredible career as an athlete and coach. He's won medals at the Olympics and the World Equestrian Games, been World Cup champion and also served as Team Canada's coach for several years while also actively competing at the upper levels throughout.

Interested in becoming an equine professional? The USEA Youth Mentorship Program gives a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run and officiate an international event, helps Young Riders and Intercollegiate athletes experience competition from the inside, as a part of the officiating and management teams, encourages furthering sport education, and helps youth athletes seek and identify career paths and job opportunities, network, communicate, and seek new experiences within the eventing community.

There are a few spots available to join this program at the Eventing Championships at Galway Downs (October 29-November 1) and it's a great opportunity for any young rider to get a true look at the ins and outs of running an international event.
