In the world of functional movement, learning how to hip hinge is one of the most important movements we can learn!
Why?
We use it all the time!!!!
Picking up kids, backpacks and groceries.
Loading and unloading the dishwasher, washer and dryer.
Getting into a car, getting out of the car.
We hinge more than we think! This small movement can improve our posture, strengthen our glutes and back, help improve core strength and more!
First get the movement down and then add load!!
How did you do?

Pilates is great exercise, but it’s also full of fun and community!
Bring a friend and join us this summer for the fun and for the workout!
Do you have forward head posture???
Between technology, stress, lack of exercise, life and things not mentioned, our heads are pushing forward!!!
Did you know this can contribute to shallow breathing, TMJ, increased shoulder and neck pain, Pelvic floor dysfunction, heaviness in the abdominals and pelvis, tight pec minor which decreases serratus function which then decreases shoulder mobility 😬😬😬????
What!???????
It’s all connected!!! Forward head posture can set off a chain of events all throughout the body. That’s why functional movement exercise is so amazing! It works the whole chain together which corrects posture, improves muscle function and mobility, and then opens up the internal structures such as airways and relieves jaw tension.
Try this exercise: sit tall and press the tongue to the roof of the mouth and suction it back. Can you feel your head lengthen back?
When walking, simply try and pull the head up from the back. If we think chin up, the head does not pull back, it over extends the neck. If we tuck the chin without the lengthen back, we now have increased our slump (check out people scrolling on their phone for this example).
Pilates is built to reset posture into its natural most functional state. We don’t emphasize one muscle group, we work the whole group together. We work towards symmetry and balance.
