HELLAM, HALLAM & WRIGHTSVILLE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE:

In accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC), we are notifying you that Hallam Borough, Hellam Township and Wrightsville Borough are in the process of updating our Comprehensive Plan. We are in partnership to do a Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan instead of individual ones. This plan serves as a long-term guide for land use, infrastructure, community facilities, and overall growth management within our collective municipalities.

We value the perspectives of our residents. As such, we invite you to review the draft plan and provide any comments, suggestions, or concerns you may have.

👷 DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT: Meet Jared Lighty!

For nearly six years, Jared Lighty has helped keep Hellam Township moving as a member of the Public Works road crew. After working in real estate, Jared joined the Township during the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly became a familiar presence along our roadways.

Residents are likely to spot Jared maintaining the Township’s roadsides. If you pass a freshly mowed stretch of road, there’s a good chance he was behind it! His work changes with the seasons and includes mowing, roadside maintenance, stormwater projects, road patching and paving. When winter weather arrives, he trades the mower for a plow and helps keep Township roads safe and passable.
Jared said that much of the crew’s stormwater work happens quietly in the background. Its importance becomes especially clear during heavy rain, when properly maintained drains and waterways help direct runoff where it can safely go.

Jared’s pride is not tied to one particular project. He approaches every assignment with the same sense of responsibility and high standards.
“If I’m involved in it, I want to walk away from it being okay that people know I was involved in it.”

A Dallastown-area native, Jared spends his time outside of work watching his daughter play travel softball and camping with his family.
Thank you, Jared, for the care and high standards you bring to every job and for helping keep Hellam Township moving in every season!

💧 TOWN HALL TUESDAY 🌧️

Thinking about extending a downspout, installing a drainage pipe, creating a swale, or changing the grade of your yard? These improvements may seem minor, but they can change where stormwater travels and potentially cause erosion, flooding, or property damage.

Before starting:
🔹 Observe how water currently moves across the property
🔹 Direct roof runoff toward appropriate lawn, garden, or infiltration areas whenever practicable
🔹 Avoid blocking established drainage paths
🔹 Consider how the project could affect neighboring land and nearby roadways
🔹 Contact the Township to determine whether approval may be required
Planning for the entire path of the water, not just where it leaves the pipe, can help prevent bigger problems after the next heavy rain.

Did you know the PA Treasury keeps track of unclaimed financial assets such as lost paychecks, unused bank accounts and more?

Please be advised that Horn Road will be closed between Millstone Road and Tracey School Road on Saturday, September 19, in connection with the York County Pawpaw Festival at the Horn Farm Center.
