Cape Town Trail by Ryan Sandes 22 May 2027 This mountain marathon includes a 46km marathon, 22km trail and a new 11km trail which all run through the Table Mountain National Park.

Win the 22km Stately Protea. Race the Alps. 🏃

Talent has never been the problem for African trail runners. Opportunity has.

First male and first female to cross the finish line on the 22km Stately Protea win a plane ticket to Switzerland.🇨🇭

Ten days. Two races. Thyon-Dixence and Sierre-Zinal, one of the oldest and most iconic mountain races on earth. 🏔️

Run since 1974, Sierre-Zinal is now part of the Golden Trail Series, the top tier of world trail running. Nearly 2,200m of climbing, against the best mountain runners on the planet. 🌍

Philani Sengce took that trip this year and finished 89th overall against that field. The fastest time ever run by a South African at Sierre-Zinal. History made. 🇿🇦🏅

It happened once. From 2027, the 22km Stately Protea is open to athletes from across Africa. 🌍

Cape Town Trail is entering a new chapter ⛰️🌼
👉 From 2027, the 22km becomes our flagship race. Short, fast, and fiercely competitive. 💨

What does this mean?
We’re saying goodbye to the 43km. It’s been part of our story for years, and it’s not a decision we take lightly. But by backing this new direction, we can build the 22km into one of the deepest short-course trail races in South Africa. 🇿🇦

What makes this exciting?
The prize purse stays the same, just redistributed across the 22km and 11km, for deeper fields and bigger rewards. And the 22km champions (men’s and women’s) win a 10-day trip to Switzerland to race Thyon-Dixence and Sierre-Zinal 🇨🇭✨
