Given that South Africa is enjoying a “golden era” 🏆 for surfski racing, we are expecting 2026 to be a bumper year. At the 2026 Pete Marlin Surfski Race we will be crowning the S1 and S2 Champions at our event in East London in October / November ... and we are planning to make this years SA Champs extra special, and in doing so celebrate the sport of Ocean Paddling in SA!

To celebrate our success in recent years, we are hoping and planning to get more than our usual number of 300+ paddlers and are aiming to reach the 400-paddler mark. I encourage you to remain on this “broadcast only” WhatsApp race group for more info later this year!

In the meantime, diarise the weekend of October 31 and November 1, when we hope to see you as part of the "Magnificent 400" downwind race! 👍

Being a local East London / Border Canoe Club hosted and organized race …. And for this reason, perhaps a “sister race” to the Pete Marlin …. We wish the race organisers, Crew and paddlers a great PE2EL Challenge race!!

The Biogen Pete Marlin Surfski Race prides itself in awarding prizes to as many age categories as possible and giving equal prize money for both men and women. While we did award to most ladies age categories, there was an oversight on some of the age groups.

Apologies and huge congratulations to the 50+, 60+ and 65+ categories! 👏👏👏 A great achievement 💪 Your prizes are on their way.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING 2026 GREAT AGAIN

This is the final post on this group for the 2025 Biogen Pete Marlin Surfski Race. We will go quiet for now and plan to next post once we can confirm the dates for 2026 and then let you known when entries open.

But before we go into hibernation, just a few quick thank yous to some of the people who have helped make the 2025 event what it was.

Firstly, huge thank you to all my fellow organisers, officials and helpers, and Mike Zoetmulder from Zsports Timing for the live results.

Secondly to all our valuable sponsors, most notably Biogen, Seymour Properties, Fenn, Watt Safety Gear, PW Harvey & Co, Dunlop and Hansa Pilsner, but also to all the other suppliers and supporters.

To the media team – Barry Lewin and South African Surf Ski for the videos, Tim Whitfield from Gameplan Media for communications, and the photographers Jon Ivins, Craig Giese and Louis Wulff.

But mostly we have to thank all of the paddlers who are the heart and soul of this great event. Thank you for entering and travelling from all corners of the world (literally) to be part of our event.
