Transferring your back control from arms controlling to legs controlling.
This frees up your arms to start submitting. π₯°
This is a problem everyone needs to solve and it can be solved in many different ways.
You only really need one or two good solutions and you are good to go. π
Simple fundamental drills like this build genuinely good grapplers that all look a different from each other as everyone's bodies work differently.
SBG Western Australia
SBGWA is about having fun and learning jiu jitsu in a safe and inclusive environment.
Working seated guard tonight. Specifically looking to improve the engagement phase through thoughtful grip fighting and a simple plan to attach to your partners leg.π₯°
Top person looking to connect both hands on partner with body lock, double collar ties or 2 on one leg control.
Bottom person looking to connect to the leg of their partner and IMMEDIATELY offbalance. We worked shin on shin position for all the people who didn't have a plan from there already. π
Great job by the team in an often difficult position to feel comfortable in.

Our kids BJJ program kicks off start of term 3 Monday 20th July. π₯°
Kids from 8+ can come in and try out a session for free before making any decisions. π
We donβt just teach how to wrestle, we help build resilience and confidence in a kind supportive environment.
Come and see why joining the team at SBG isnβt just about doing the thing. π
Unless you come in and try, you will never know if itβs something for you or your kids.
Make the call today. We are here to help.
One of the things we are very good at is working at an individual level to find what works best for you. π
No cookie cutter combos, no play by play instructions, no everyone has to do it the same. π΄π΄π΄π΄ So boring.....
Working with young Finn on a wall heavy grindy style that plays into the fact he is pretty strong, but not very fast.
This makes the best use of his attributes and allows him to find success with what he does have, rather than force a style that isn't going to work for him. π€ SMRT
So if you have tried the traditional model and it didn't float your boat then come in and try something more contemporary and tailored for you.

Great little talk on game theory when it comes to finite and infinite games.
This applies strongly to how you approach training. If you are playing training to win, it generates more conflict and arguments. If you are playing training to just play, then that is where youβll see a lot more fun, innovation and teamwork. π₯°
At SBGWA we do most of our training in this play space, nobody is trying to win the game, we are just looking at outcomes for effort in a way that encourages both parties to explore and find better ways to get things done.
If you havenβt tried a session with us then I highly encourage you to do so. Youβll be looked after and experience a training methodology and environment that is nothing at all like your more traditional gyms. π What we do, we do really well and are always looking to improve through intelligent and thoughtful input from the whole team.
So just come in and try. Itβs free to do and you never know, you might just like it enough to stick around and learn some really cool s**t.

Heaps of crew at the MCSA sparring day today. π₯° Looking forwards to some good round and gaining some XP.
Good rounds with the team tonight. π₯°
We worked engagement phase drills on the wall tonight. Battling for head position and inside space and and some good recovery tech for when things aren't going your way. π²π²π²
We train differently to your usual watch and mimic style of coaching. We like to take a slice of what actually happens in a fight and work it together with our partner adding in upgrades as we need them. π€
It comes down to a very simple approach that works for everyone.
1. Do the thing.
2. Find the problems.
3. Solve the problems.
If you are interested in seeing what it's all about, its just as simple.
Come in and do the thing.
Would love to meet you.π₯°
Dealing with pressure against the fence tonight in our Teens MMA group.
1. Shoot to the skinny side.
2. Turn the corner.
3. Yeet your partner against the cage to reverse position.

Working on chain wrestling tonight but instead of waiting for our partner to react, we just go for it. π
Basically the drill boiled down to you couldn't take your partner down until you hit 3 different positions. The other partner is trying to not fall over on level 1 and then trying to defend and break away to strike for level 2. πͺπ₯
By changing strategy 3 times in quick succession you really get ahead of your partner in the offence defence game and maximise your chance of success.
If you wait until they react before you transition then they are already waiting for your next move.
Nice work by the team tonight trying out different transitions and exploring what works for them best. One of the reasons why everyone here has their own style rather than have a cookie cutter gym of everyone being the same. π₯°
Working striker vs grappler this week. π Striker only has strikes and must avoid the strong clinch. Wrestler has all the tools and needs to get a strong clinch with their hands locked together. π Don't care if it's on the legs, body or head.
Our Teens MMA group haven't been doing MMA for long, but are doing a great job already. All about doing the thing and refining as we go. π
