Today we had a lovely farewell morning tea at the National Museum to wish Angus good luck competing with the inaugural Australian University Team, who are preparing to head to Liaocheng, Shandong Province, China from 24–26 May 2026. Then it was time to get back in the boats to finish our technique session. Angus Jones is a graduate of University of Canberra with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a background in film production. He loves dragon boating for the challenge, teamwork and strong sense of community, which has taken him across Australia and around the world.

As part of the inaugural university team, Angus saw the chance to help build something new while continuing to grow as a paddler. Away from the water, he enjoys running, cycling, pub trivia, collecting records and planning his next trip.

Our mighty crew in the Senior B small boat 2km turns race. Awesome work from the whole crew, but especially our super sweep Cherie who kept calling us up and steered some wonderful tight turns 🐉💪

The last few days’ of the Auschamps have been amazing as always!! Lots of competition, making new friends, reacquainting ourselves with old one and lots of action on the water! ; ; ; ;

We are very lucky that Dragons Abreast Canberra member Susan is also a member of NAVMAT. She is an inspirational woman, and we are very proud of her.

Some of Navmat’s early birds certainly got the worm today!! We managed to have a great time viewing the balloons from the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, a marvellous time had by all. It was followed up by our early squad session then our famous coffee run to the Australian National Museum. Some managed to paddle 16km today if they did all three sessions! Bring on the ACT Champs!!

A beautiful session this morning focusing on technique, with a welcome stop for coffee at the National Museum as always. Some sneaky shots from a trainee sweep while the crew had the finer points of paddling explained by our wonderful coach Ursula. We are so lucky to have such a passionate, knowledgeable, kind and patient coaching team ❤️
