๐๐ World Drowning Prevention Day 2026 ๐๐
Last week, we proudly recognised World Drowning Prevention Day and joined communities across WA in raising awareness that every drowning is preventable.
The Queens Park Theatre was illuminated in blue, standing as a powerful reminder of the importance of drowning prevention and the collective effort required to keep our community safe around water.
Our team got behind the cause by wearing blue to show support and spark important conversations about water safety throughout the community. We also hosted a colouring-in competition, giving our younger community members the opportunity to learn about water safety in a fun and engaging way.
We would like to thank everyone who participated, wore blue, entered the competition, and helped spread this important message. Together, we can continue to build awareness, promote water safety skills, and encourage safe behaviours around our pools, beaches, and waterways.
๐ While last week we highlighted the importance of water safety, drowning prevention is something we must prioritise every day.
Anyone can drown, no one should.

World Drowning Prevention Day 2026 โ Unite to turn the tide on drowning
In April 2021, the United Nations declared 25 July as World Drowning Prevention Day, recognising drowning as a serious but preventable public health issue.
Every year, over 300,000 people worldwide lose their lives to drowning โ including hundreds of families across Australia. Most drowning deaths occur in low and middle-income countries, but no community is immune. Children and young people are most at risk.
This World Drowning Prevention Day, communities across Australia and around the globe are uniting to turn the tide on drowning by raising awareness, building lifesaving skills and taking simple actions that help keep people safe in, on and around water.
[Insert organisation/facility name] is proud to support Royal Life Saving Australia and the global movement to prevent drowning.
Hereโs how you can take action:
Enrol in swimming lessons
Supervise children at all times around water
Check your pool fence and gate
Avoid alcohol and drugs around water
Wear a lifejacket when on the water
Know the conditions
Learn CPR
Train to become a swim teacher or pool lifeguard
Every action matters. Together, we can unite to turn the tide on drowning.
